Yeah I handed in my keys and laptop today, and it was really weird. I feel little adrift, as for years socialising has revolved around work colleagues (well since I shifted here anyway). Still, I suppose I will forget about it all in a few weeks time.

But at the moment not having stuff to prepare nad work I 'should' be doing means that I mooch around not quite knowing what to do with myself! It is weird finishing up, It was weird for me as I was finishing a lot earlier than last time but also hardly anyone was there on the last day!

Yes I agree Ginger - although I'm not making such a financial contribution anymore, I fully intend to keep the house shipshape and we also have a lifestyle block that entails a lot of work.  So the more I can reduce DH's work, the better our family time will be.  Not doing much at the moment though - house is a complete mess and I'm just putting up with it because I'm stuffed!  Can't say I miss work much, but I do miss having lots of people around to converse with. 

Hard to know what to expect once baby arrives - the lifestyle will sure be a lot different, that's all I know.  In the meantime I feel like I am in the world's biggest waiting room!

Nervous about the birth and can't think much beyond that right now.

Very well said Ginger.

I felt very odd about it because once I wasn't standing all day I felt pretty good, like good enough to be at work! But the work required standing all day.

I felt a bit weird about it when Jody didn't arrive on time, like I should have finished later because the baby didn't arrive for nearly 2 months after I finished.

I know exactly how you feel Auntie Sarah - I was/am exactly the same! Although I was exhausted and desparately needed to stop, the whole idea that I may not be going back (I'm certainly not going back full time) was very odd. I think for me the big thing is not making a financial contribution to the household, and therefore feeling like I'm not contributing at all - although DH doesn't feel even remotely like that! What I've done though is thrown myself into my 'new job' of looking after DH and making his life as easy and pleasant as possible, and therefore taking some of the load off as such while he still works eg. keeping baking in the tins, all the washing up to date, folded and put away, keeping ahead of the housework, keeping the dishes done and the table and bench clear, organising shopping lists ... blah blah!! AND of course making sure that everything is organised for the kidlet, whenever he decides to arrive.

I think the other thing is too that you're really aware that life is about to change no end, but you haven't got any concept of how or how much yet, so you have a sense of anticipation and surrealty (no idea if that's even a word!) swirling around you, but it's a bit displaced because for the moment, nothing is happening! I finished yesterday too (but am going back Monday for a couple of hours just to tidy some stuff up) and nope - I don't feel like that at all lol.

I'm lookng forward to this time 'off' - but I do think I'll end up getting bored and need to do something else before too long. I can't live for too long without serious mental stimulation.

I had to finish work on 16th December and it's only now sinking in that I'm not going back. Although I am very glad I'm not going back to where I was working as the boss was pretty horrible to put it nicely!!!

Luckily my Mum has been coming over most days to help with cleaning up the house otherwise I think I would be going more than a little stir-crazy being home by myself!!!!!! Yep I felt like that when I knocked off due with #1. I was 35 weeks pg but it was 30 Nov and I really didn't want to try working in December and be pg at the same time, especially because my boss wasn't keen to see my job shared or dropped to part-time (small business, I was the only full-time employee). So I just stopped and wondered what to do! It's only hit me in the last few days that i'm not on Xmas leave, and am not going back for a long time. It does feel weird.

I've always worked full time and now I am SO bored as DH is back at work until the birth. I've been trying to keep up with the house work so I don't get bored but i'm needing arvo naps these days lol. Sounds weird but when I first stopped working, I felt like a bit of a sack as me not working has dropped our income so much but then I have to keep reminding myself why. I think I'll be going through this in a couple of weeks. I've been working and financially independant on myself for the last 20 years. It is going to take me some time to get use to the change. I felt really odd when I finished work. Hard to explain but it took months to actually feel like I wasn't just going to wake up on the Monday and have to go back.
Even now nearly 2 years later it still feels weird not going to work some days

I didnt, I was so pleased lol. I was doing a beauty course and my doc put me on sickness leave cos I put my back out. I was only 20 weeks pregnant! I've just left work for the last time and it feels really...weird! I'm pleased to be finished, really need time to relax and get some rest before baby arrives, but it just feels so weird that I'm not going back. And it's not just like a holiday, I don't know when/if I'll ever be going back! Kind of feel a bit lost!
