Whitewave - no i havent seen the pools at qm was thinking next time we are down i should pop in and have a look as ive only seen the prep room we take people in straight from the ambulance. Nope you cant, because when you have an epi you need to strapped to the CTG machine to moniter bubs and you will be monitered aswell. You are flat on your back with one so you cant be in the water.
oh and you need a catheter when you have an epidural.

You can't ahve the epi and the waterbirth together. But you can have peth and be in the water (well I was but I was on number 2). I wasn't able to birth in the water as I had complications but laboured in the bath.

Shannon, have you seen the pools at Queen Mary yet? They don't look huge (more like baths), and they only have two; I think they are first come, first serve so you may not get one anyway if they're busy.

My midwife has told me they while only let you birth in the pool if everything is perfect with you and bubs. Any complications, no matter how minor and you wont be allowed to birth in there. Definately no epi!

I started in the water last time and then got out for my epi.  Once you have the epi you are happy enough out of the water anyway.  I dont think I would have torn if I hadnt needed a ventouse delivery at the last minute (only had 1st degree vaginal wall tear so nothing major). 

 

Are they still thinking of you going early?

Nope. I asked my MW that. When you have an epi you need quite a bit more monitoring that you can't have in a pool, also it would be v difficult to get out of the pool in a hurry. Can you start in the water, and then get out and have an epi if/when you need it?
