We still have the ear infection - and now a sore throat! More antibotics to try hoping that this will sort it out (had one dose and it has given her an upset stomach). This article has a photo of someone feeding a newborn in an upright position on the third page down - perhaps you could try holding her like that?

I used to sit DS on my left arm, which was resting against my body on an angle so the back of my hand was touching my right thigh (if that makes sense?) and DS's head was resting against the top of my left arm and shoulder. He wasn't quite as upright as in that photo but almost .... I was terrified of him developing an ear infection from being fed in a position that was too horizontal. He could sit unassisted at quite an early age as a result (then I worried he might turn into a bum-shuffler lol). Hope your wee girl gets better soon.

Ask you Dr if there is a Plunket Family Centre near you.
I'm not sure where you are but I went to one in West Auckland and they were a fantastic help with info for bottle feeding.

Try holding her sitting upright with her back against you for support but on an angle she can still see your face, try feeding her like that until the infection clears up.

Unfortunately not under my midwife any more bubs is just over 3 months old. I have to say we are struggling with Plunket also I am going back to the doc tomorrow to see if the ear infection has settled. How old is baby? Are you still under your midwife? If so give her a call and ask her to help you get her in the best position. I never had any luck with my Plunket nurse

I would say she's not taking the bottle because of the ear infection pain. Perhaps the angle you are holding her makes the pain worse?!?!?
I always fed Caitlin sitting as upright as possible as I heard all the things about bottle feeding causing ear infections. She's only had one minor infection.

Try some Pamol and try again with the feed.

My only trick is to try and get her to suck on the teat while there is no milk in it, when she starts sucking wait a few seconds and then tip the bottle so she gets milk. This works for Jody, otherwise she just gags and cries harder.
Are you breastfeeding as well? Maybe try walking and rocking bubs in your arm and gently introduce the bottle? From experience if they are upset they don't take the bottle well so its getting them calm enough to actually take it. If you are sitting with bubs maybe do eye contact, gentle talking and introduce the bottle??? Easier said than done and if bubs is hungry it makes it all the more harder.
