jetts excema got so bad he would scratch it all night in his sleep i took him back to the doc and they gave me a
leminis fatty + steroid cream to use morning and night
beta creme - which is a stronger steroid cream for when it gets quite bad.

pinetarsil to add to the bath

and a aqueous cream to use as a soap substitute

I have found the best thing ever for eczema- i have had it for going on 27 years off and on... i hated all the creams cause the just irratated it even more and i hate it when my excema is wet or sweaty. then my acupuncturist suggested AloE Vera. you can get it straight from the plant or can buy it direct from the chemist. it dries instantly, relieves the heat, stops me scratching. its kept in the fridge so is constantly cold and nice and soothing. i have been using it for nearly two months and you wouldnt even know that i have flare ups!...

Hi there, my wee boy (17 months) had really bad excema since he was around 3 months old and we tried the Aqueous cream, steriod cream, pot of gold, food intolerance experiments - and the only thing that has worked is the Aveeno cream (the one with the menthol) and he now has one or two tiny patches now and again, but pretty much all clear - could be a coincidence but i'm going to keep buying it!! Sometimes they do get into a habit of scratching, he still scratches even though there's no excema and hot days used to make it worse.

We all get excema in my family and different things trigger it. In my husband it is cats and a dairy intolerance and pollens. In the kiddies it is products with fragance in them and I am pretty sure they have a dairy intolerance too, and pollen as well. For the kids we use QV excema flare up bath oil and the QV excema flare up cream to control the symptoms. We use hydrocortisone cream if it gets really bad or infected. Our Dr suggested that it is mainly about dry skin so to keep their skin moisturised and not to use any sort of soap, liquid soap can be the worst. You can get soap substitutes at the pharmacy. We have had a lot of success using Am-o-LIn Sensitive Laundry Liquid and doing warm or hot washes. Laundry liquids and powders, because of how they are made these days, don't actually dissolve properly in cold water washes, so doing warm or hot washes is the only way to ensure you don't have any residue on your clothing or towels. To stop her scratching at night have you tried those closed in mitten tops from kumfycotton? I'm having the same problem with my baby.
Aqueous cream wasn't helping at all and it became really badly inflamed last week, heat doesn't help at all.
We used hydrocortisone and now her lovely skin is back on her face but she is still bumpy over her arms and chest, and dry skin on her neck and cheeks. Pot of Gold is a balm we got from the chemist that seems to help take the redness away.
We are just trying to keep baby cool, and I have cut dairy from my diet. It's a bit tricky to find the trigger but hopefully we will figure it out soon.. I totally recommend bathing her in Pinetarsol, yes it stinks, BUT it controls the urge to scratch! I bath my daughter in it every day even when she hasn't got excema, just to stop that itchy feeling. I also Pinetarsol Gel as her "soap".

We went to a skin spec and this is what he told me to do, along with applying the numerous creams he gave me to moisturise her skin. My friends son has awful excema and she is using AVEENO cream, comes in a big tube or pump bottle from the chemist. She uses the blue and cream one that has menthol and oatmeal, we have it for the little bit we get and its great.

My daughter and I both suffer from eczema and it does get worse in summer. Steriod creams are great for getting it under control but what you need to do is find out the trigger.

This is quite a hot topic for me as I spent my entire childhood being given eczema creams when all I needed was to not have milk.

Have a look in the allergies and intolerences thread as there is lots of useful stuff there. It's not cheap, but I really recommend trying Xma-Ease. It's a natural cream in a red tube that you can buy from health shops.

My eczema got really really bad at about Christmas time (I've always had it but it flared up something chronic), and I bought this out of desperation as I'd heard good things about it. The eczema on my hands went from raw and itchy and like weeping leather all over my fingers and knuckles, to pretty much gone. Honestly it's disappeared.

The sweat makes it itch so bad!! Make sure you bath in cool water, moisturiser should be fragrance free, if it gets really bad during the day a cold flannel can help. Have you got a paddling pool? my daughter is 18 months and has had a bit of excema around her joints (feet, hands, legs) for about 6 months. been to the doctor and got a steriod cream but doesnt seem to be working that well. I moisturise her after her bath, use all natural bath products and washing detergent.
It seems to have gotten worse lately in the hot weather and i was wondering does anyone have any tips or products they can recommend?
