Sometimes they do get into a habit of scratching, he still scratches even though there's no excema and hot days used to make it worse.

Good luck, I know how frustating and horrible it is to see the wee ones scratching!

In my husband it is cats and a dairy intolerance and pollens. In the kiddies it is products with fragance in them and I am pretty sure they have a dairy intolerance too, and pollen as well. For the kids we use QV excema flare up bath oil and the QV excema flare up cream to control the symptoms. We use hydrocortisone cream if it gets really bad or infected. Our Dr suggested that it is mainly about dry skin so to keep their skin moisturised and not to use any sort of soap, liquid soap can be the worst. You can get soap substitutes at the pharmacy. We have had a lot of success using Am-o-LIn Sensitive Laundry Liquid and doing warm or hot washes. Laundry liquids and powders, because of how they are made these days, don't actually dissolve properly in cold water washes, so doing warm or hot washes is the only way to ensure you don't have any residue on your clothing or towels. That residue, even if you can't see it, is very irritating.
