Thought I would do an update - yay - Eli is now succesfully sleeping on his front with no screaming. He is very good at working his way out of his wedge (either rolls over it or kreeps up out of it) & I was just about to buy a safe T sleep but he's managed to find his thumb & go to sleep hapily on his front. Thanks for your advice, feels like forever but 2 weeks isn't that bad to settle again. Lets see how Jacob goes once he learns to roll - at least I'll know what to do.

Yeah the whole thing about not using a cot bumper in terms of suffocation is totally valid, however you'll always find for and against on anything to do with babies. We would be getting no sleep right now if it wasn't for the cot bumper as she was waking every couple of hours with her legs through the bars or her head hitting the sides.

Like I mentioned, I would have never used it with Alyssa at this age because she was a lot smaller and less physically capable than Kayla is. And like a lot of people say, you do relax a bit on certain things when you get to baby #2, so I made my decision based on what I'm comfortable with.

O.K. Cot Bumper is now on! Tied very tightly! It looks like he can now wriggle out of his foam wedge but I think if I put him in it to start of with then at least he'll go to sleep (too tired to wriggle that much) & it's only when he wakes he'll make the effort to roll.

I've also taken your advice Weegee and taken all his toys out of his cot except his cute bear (which I like more than he does) & his taggy. Off to feed the boys.

We have used a cot bumper with caden from the moment he was in his cot at 2 months old, and we have had no problems, we also used a duvet for him and again no probs.
They say you" shouldnt use this" and "you shouldnt use that", but the cot bumper keeps the draft out of the cot and also stops him from getting stuck in the bars. When JJ started doing that someone said to me to take all his toys out of the cot except his one "cuddly" so he didn't think it was playtime when he went in there, and that seemed to help - provided he's tired enough when I put him down, he doesn't automatically roll over now. Still does when he wakes up, though, and the other night when I got him up for his dreamfeed he was asleep on his tummy, hanging over the edge of his mattress (one arm poking through the bars). I thought about putting a cot bumper up (have one which I bought a while back) but I read you're not meant to until after they are 1. Kayla was waking up too when she started rolling recently, and I ended up buying cot bumpers (which I would never have done at this age with Alyssa).. but it has made such a difference! Now she doesn't hit the cold wood of the cot or slip her arms and legs through the holes and has gone back to sleeping through again.

Well, last night we used a wedge from the start. At 6am when I went to give Jacob his dummy he had krept right to the top of his cot but still on his back. Then 1/2hr later he was screaming & on his front so I put him striaght back into his wedge which seemed to work. I think I'll do that for a week & then hopefully he will follow in Caden's 'steps' & learn the rest.

But I know what you mean, caden started doing that aswell, he would roll to his tummy then scream cos he couldnt or was to lazy to roll back! Wedge seemed to work the one time I tried it.... here he is.. even looks like he's had enough of it all too!!! Trying to sleep like that.


was only awake for 1/2hr at his latest feed, will have a good night sleep at least... well I hope.

Yep, sometimes they have the ability but not the brains to problem solve the "I'm pissed off on my front, what should I do" problem. I have a similar problem with Daniel rolling, but he always shoves his dummy in - he just cries really loudly with it in . Can Eli put his own dummy in?

I wouldn't worry about putting the wedge in for a little while. He will roll when he is awake (out of the cot) so his development should be covered at that point. Eli spends the majority of his day nap/sleep time rolling onto his tummy in his cot...followed by the worst uncontrolable crying & shuffling in circles around his cot & won't stop unless I roll him back over (which by the way he can do himself) to which he finds his thumb & goes to sleep for a few minutes until he wakes again & rolls etc etc. I think he can't settle on his front because he can't get his thumb in his mouth. I have reverted to giving him his dummy while screaming away & he'll often instantly drop his head & go to sleep - again for maybe 10 minutes until he lifts his head again & dummy drops out & he screams.Usually he uses his thumb to re-settle.... I have used a foam wedge thing to stop him (which works) but feel like this is limiting his development by stopping him move.
