Think I stayed 2 days, and my midwife came to see me every day which was great.

Good luck!

The staff midwives in the delivery suite were fantastic. My son was early (no complications though) and we spent a week in the maternity ward.
Ok, I have a few ideas to help you naturally induce labour.
Acupuncture
Raspberry leaf tea (has to be raspberry leaf and not the fruit)
Evening primrose oil
castor oil (this is a strong laxative too so be careful)
Nipple stimulation
Take a walk
Spicy food
And I know you said not to say 'it' so I won't but it worked for me!
Good luck with everything. I don't envy you being pregnant and overdue in this yucky heat you must be so uncomfortable.

    Author: JessDub
Subject: 24589
Posted: 16 February 2009 at 7:14pm

Good luck! I was induced at Waikato in Nov last year. The staff were excellent and overall a positive experience given that my original lovely birthplan was completely out the window. And my midwife was still overseeing everything.

My waters broke at 39 weeks and labour had to be induced 48 hours later. I was admitted on a Saturday morning and had the gel inserted at 9am by my midwife. Nothing happened so was admitted to delivery suite at 6pm for the synoticinin drip.

At that stage my midwife came back although there was a staff midwife in the room at all times. My midwife was in charge but worked with the staff midwives.

At about midnight, after I had an epidural, my midwife went home for a sleep and came back at 9am when I was finally fully dilated and ready to push. She would have delivered the baby had I not needed a ventouse to help things along and had the OB registrar deliver bub instead.

If you're on the drip, you can't have a water birth though there are two water suites at the hospital.
What I can remember, you're allowed 12 hours at the hospital post delivery and then 48 hours at the birthing centre - barring no complications.

I can't recommend any remedies for bringing on labour - tried all (except sex, as my waters had broken) and nothing worked.

Good luck, you are in good hands and the new delivery suites are nice. And you get to meet your bubba - awesome!!

Where do these happen and what do they look for?
How quickly can all this happen ie I would like to wait till the 14 days are up but don't want to be told at this point I have to wait a few more days to get seen.
What is the pocess at Waikato?
What role will the MW play ie will she and I still be in charge or does she take a less active role behind the Waikato staff?
How long after baby is born till we get evicted to our birthing unit?
Are there birthing pools at Waikato?

Any good stories about induction? (save any horror stories for later please)

Any advice to avoid induction? I am walking around town trying to get labour started before I see her today however no action yet. I need a guarenteed method.

Please do not suggest SEX with DH to start labour... That is what got me into this mess to start with
