Yeah I have to have 1 fire going every day as that is my hot water. And the other one we haven't lit yet (too hot here) but once winter (well the cold here) it will be going pretty much all the time.

My DF is out side moving 4 cubic meters right this very minute. We got the same last year but are now thinking if Im going to be home from Mid may onwards we might order another 4, its not like its going to go off if we dont use it, or get any cheaper to buy! Now he has thrown it up the side of the house I have to stack it. He is telling me I shouldnt, but I cant see any reasion why not? or am i being silly? Last year we got 3m3 plus a small load from my grandparents (won't get that this year as Gdad died) and offcuts from a friends work, and we ran out with about 2 months of needing the fire every 2nd day pretty much. This year seeing as we will have a NB in August we will be getting 6m3 from mum and dad (bless!) and will also be chopping down a pine tree from DH's aunty's place as well as a couple of trees we chopped down which should be dry by August.

So I would say maybe 4 or 5m3? Hmm now i'm trying to think how much we got last winter i think we got about 5 cubic meters we have a wee bit left over but remembering that we weren't home all the time and the fire only went on at night. This year we have a heap of decking off cuts to use they are hard wood some wood left over from last year and also some that DH got a couple of years ago we will need to get some more though. Can't say what I have will compare to what you have. But I already have 6 cubic metres of wood and still need to get twice that .

As a side note, if anyone in Palmy wants cheap firewood PM my FIL does a good deal.

4 is quite a bit and should see you through. We went through three and had the fire on every night. Cant order cords of wood any more! As I found out this morning when I rang and ordered mine! cubic meters! We got 4 last year and got through most of it and we are in Auckland, fire was only on nights and weekends. I have ordered 4m2 just hoping its enough. We got 2 last year and still have some left over. 2 should be ok, but with a new born and being home more u will go through more. Also if your house is big or has high ceilings. We went through 2 last winter, and will get the same for this winter. Our fire was pretty crap (we've renovated it now) so I think we used more than we should have, but we were both working full time, so only had it on in the evenings that we were home at a reasonable hour and during the weekends. We have an old 3 bedroom home.
