I suppose they had to go through Westpac? Because if they'd gone through that 'Welcome Home' scheme the Gvt has then they would probably have been eligible for $200K with no deposit and up to $280K with a deposit.

I preferred the Yellow house overall but I think I liked the blue team better as people (apart from the graduate designer).

They could afford to buy it. Both teams always have to save towards their deposit, aswell as pay other debts so they can get a higher approval. Imagine being there Jolene! It was terrible, I was trying so hard not to cry (OK.... so I did!) My mum taped it too as she was out and so I watched it once I got to their place and it was funny seeing what they had put on (and me absolutely going mad with my sign)!

And mrsg1 they'll be fine as neighbours, they get on OK. I know that they didn't know what went on in each others house until it was aired and we saw it. So, Te Ana's comments about the sculpture, their off comments about their house etc all came as a surprise for them - they heard it as we did. Can't speak for Rach but if it was me I'd still be pretty annoyed at them, I think I would have rather known at the time (last year) they had said/done that rather than just now.

I was teary eyed watching Rachel's face when the other team won, really felt for them, I think the yellow team got a lot of sympathy votes also, (also agree she kinda put the other house down) BUT I did prefer the yellow house. Both couples are really nice.

I ended up giving my votes to blue last night, I liked them more as a couple. I preferred the exterior / landscaping of the blues house, and the little girls room was gorgy.

I started off liking the yellow house, but Te Ana really irritated me - it may have only been for TV but she came across as a bad sport.

Love Rach's hair - she looked fab. 

Wonder how they'll get on with each other as neighbours though?

I wondered if yellow got the sympathy vote after announcing Te Ana's pregnancy and not being able to afford to buy it.

I liked the yellow house better, but then later thought, you know, this is meant to be THEIR dream-home, not mine. so whie the blue colours weren't my thing, i love that it is theirs. xLethalCocktailx sounds like a good time was had, the Blues got there house for a really good price & it was great they did not have to borrow as much although they were able to borrow a lot more than the yellows, so in the end a good out come for all. I think they are both lucky good on them all.

Hey all,

Blues get everything in their house too :)
I went back to the Coast to lend support to my friends Rach & Dave and it was exciting, emotional but happy too! They're so happy it's over and they can get on with their lives now. It was really devastating for them, but it was amazing to see the support that turned out for them, completely eclipsed the yellows and we looked pretty "cool" in our blue costumes!

A few highs:
* The amazing amount of supporters that turned out & how upbeat & positive they were! So cute to see wee kids who had made their own signs and everything turn up! Too cute!
* Dave carrying Rach 'over the threshold' after they won their auction
* Jayne, all 3 judges coming straight over to celebrate with the blues once the show was off air. They were really nice (Oh.... and yes - even Nat!)
* Dave & Rach's parents went around hugging, shaking people's hands etc and thanking them for all their support. Nearly made me cry (....again) :(

A few lows:
* Sore and blue fingers from tying so many balloons!
* Rehearsals :(
* Some y supporters tied a heap of yellow balloons to the blue house straight after they announced they had won & blue was bidding. Really bad taste, thought it was a real "haha in your face" thing to do (coupled with other things said/done... but won't go into that!)
* Being abused by y supporters because I removed the balloons attached to the blues house
* It was FREEZING!! And so so windy!

Strange/other things:
* The power cut out while screening the couples looking at the auction brochures.
* Yellow's red coat didn't go over with them to the house after they won, she instead came over with the blues and was hugging them etc and started celebrating with the the judges & Jayne. Thought that was really weird... but I have a few ideas why ;)
* The orange in the blues kitchen was completely different than what was shown on TV. In fact their kitchen was gorgeous (I didn't like it beforehand). The colour wasn't that 70's orange whatsoever, it was a pastel coral.
* Kayla's room & bathroom was smaller than shown on TV
* Master, toilet & lounge was all bigger than shown on TV.

So was all good in the end, I am just hoping Rach is all good today & looking forward to their engagement party in the next 2 months after they've moved in! :D

i guess in a small town like that everyone would have really wanted the blues to get their house too, i know i wouldve felt really bad bidding against them for a house they biult.

So happy for both teams and Im RAPT that yellow won!

Blues did great out of it though, hell they will only have a $215k mortgage (since they brought it for $235 and get the $20k from Mitre 10) on a house that is valued at $300k! PLUS all the furniture inside and all the prizes they won!

Im confused I thought that blue won the grocery and the power money or did I get that round the wrong way?

I would say the yellows don't keep the deposit money, because they didn't need to buy their house.   They're so set - no mortgage, $8k woth of groceries, $5k worth of power.... All those toys for the kids, etc.   They don't need the money

The blues probably don't get any extra money, either. They "bought" their house for less than what the bank was prepared to loan them, so they don't really need to, I guess.

That's just speculation

Bizzy, they have a builder go onto each site during the week and finish them off so they are actually fully completed for the auctions.

I was talking to someone that is involved in the production of Dream Home who said that the director tricked the yellow team into criticising the blue team. Apparently the production team were aware of the fact that the yellows were more "popular" and also the fact that there had been very little drama so they told the yellows that the blues had really slated their house.

Also, the pregnancy and engagment announcements were filmed later. They had stopped filming by the time they found out they were pregnant and got engaged so they went back to film them.

I am guessing she told the bank as she would be showing at the auction etc as she would be around 20 weeks so its not like you can hide it.

not a huge follower of this but always wondered who on earth would want to buy these houses if they hadnt built them anyway. they are unfinished half the time, with shoddy workmanship in some places and some very "interesting" interior decorating.

i thought the yellows landscaping yas really boring! but the blues was great!

i also was voting yellow untill now . . mainly due to their attitude (hers mainly) just seems to put everyone down. i think the blues are alot more down to earth and deserving even tho i do like the yellows interior alot better

I liked the blues landscaping and I think Te Ana comes across as a stroppy little madam so I hope the blues will win.
I wonder if commenting on having a baby and only being on one income will "buy" peoples votes as they know the yellows will not be able to afford the house otherwise. I think comments like that should wait till the final episode when all voting is done and dusted.

I was disappointed in the end results & maybe thats the shows fault as last year they were a lot more adventurous & they even got a pool. This year they have all been pretty safe with the decisions & I would not bid on either of them. They have done so much work they both deserve their houses & I wonder what the market value will be.

I voted the same...overall the yellow's house was better presented and had a better finish, and I just liked it better really - it was more to my taste.

Yeah Charly I thought it looked like a proposal and a pregnancy announcement too! Will have to wait and see I guess.

Someone said about them keeping stuff - they get to keep everything furniture-wise and appliance-wise in the house, pluse they get the winnings from each week (if they win the judges vote), plus money from Westpac that they always give them for the deposit, plus I think Mitre10 usually give them money too. I think last time the couple went in with something like 50-70k didn't they? If that's not a win-win situation, I don't know what is!

I prefer the yellow house overall. I think the blue colours clash a bit too much and there's not enough flow in the design.

As for the cladding episode I don't understand why they don't give them more time when it's clear from the outset they won't get done. It was fine when Dreamhome first started out and the houses basically stayed the same size, but now they're 2-2 1/2 times the size.

I found TeAna's comments about the blue house were quite negative, but like Peanut I do think it was a sign of age (that and her meltdown). Which is a weird thing for me to say because I'm only 23 but I can definitely handle conflict better and take a more impartial view of situations that what she showed. I didn't like either house last night, the grey tones just don't do it for me. If I had to choose it would be yellow's just because I liked how they had weatherboards on both the original house and the extension. On the "next week on Mitre10 Dream Home" sysnopsis last night they had what looked like Dave proposing to Rach and Te Ana and Mike announcing a pregnancy.
Of course, TV shows like this like to manipulate these things with fancy editing, so who knows

I found last nights episode boring.
As was said earlier, you can't really tell how good they look until the landscaping is done.

I far prefer the yellow house, as a whole.
But I would say Wetpac (or a mortgage broker) will come to the party with the "losing" team, allowing them to buy their house by supplying the deposit.

No, she didn't fall pregnant until after they finished filming the renovations (November). Apparently, they're not allowed to (get pregnant) because of the work they have to do or something. Makes sense I guess, would be terrible if anything happened because they were working on the houses.

Rach & Dave got engaged during open home (fortnight ago or so) and TeAna and Mike did their pregnancy announcement at the same time. She's due at the same time as my sister, around the 15th August, so she fell pregnant in December.

I've just watched it on TV on Demand, because we're not home on Mondays (I am so gutted!!!)...she reminds me a lot of when I was in my early pregnancy stage...no-one could reason with me, regardless of whether it was logical and common sense or not

So far I like the yellow house the best....I really don't like the outside of the blue, it doesn't "flow" really....but then again the yellows is similar - there's no merging between the old and new, it's like two completely separate houses joined for the sake of it.

Yip I agree boring, I did not like either really so I saw no winner or loser. I think they play things very safe, in the past they have been more adventurous, so I wonder what the outside will be like.

I think the melt down was over the top, but they are under such stress, they do all this work & may not win so understandable, funny how the camera is always there for them & Jane was fuelling it a bit I though.

I didnt like either.

DH was a yellow fan until last night he said. He thought TeAna was "b*tchy" about the blues house when she was walking through it.

Im sure TeAna would have apoligised to the girl later, did they show that?

I agree, BooBoo! I think anyone in that situation could have a melt down and if anything it really just showed her age and her desire to win the comp!

I hate the cladding episode....so boring so at least the yellows supplied some drama to entertain us. Again, I think the worst part of the show is that producers get to show what they like of the contestants, that must be so difficult for the couples. This competition really does seem to be a popularity contest, and every year there is the unfair sl*gging that goes both ways.

What did we all think of last nights?

I didnt really like either houses outside!

I hate it though how some of the blues friends have jumped on various message boards and bagging the crap out of yellows about TeAna's melt down, yeah she was over the top - but hasnt blues done that too?! Ie the blue guy telling Rach that he was over her lol.

Way cool that they won $5k lucky things!

At the end of the day both couples are winners really eh, they have won SO much already! She irritates me sooooooo much! I know she had a cold, but did you hear her "If I can't find my jacket I'm going home!" - talk about packing one! But it was amusing wasn't it!

Kitchens/Garages:
I preferred the yellows layout and colours but hated their benchtop. Preferred blues benchtop just looked far classier IMO. Thought blues garage was much better over yellows. Thought the points were a bit ridiculous this week, yellows scoring a 9 from one or 2 of the judges (?) when the kick boards weren't even finished. Haha, I did have a wee laugh when I heard Dave say that to her! It's just them - they just wind one another up. People of course take it as they would in their own relationships forgetting that those people aren't them. My fiance & I have been together 9 years & to others sometimes we come off as arguing when we're not - if we get frustrated that's just how we are but we don't classify it as an argument because we're not angry at one another.

Dave (blue guy) made a comment along the lines of being over Rach. Who was understandably tired and lippy herself.
I think it needs to be remembered everyone gets like that once in a while and the media can portray unrealistic angles on peoples personalities.

Melissa lost her jacket. She's not well so she was told by Rach to take a break.

This week we did not really see as much being done, like painting & dressing the room, I thought it was all so rushed, maybe they should of done the garages another time.

I think the blue guy is a (sp) stropy kid, & you shouldn't talk about your partner like that & on camera.

I hated the orange splash back that the blues had with a passion! It didn't even match properly with the height thing. Maybe if it had been just the orange by the actually cooking area it would have looked good but the whole way round was not good. I did like their bench top though.

Yellow I LOVED but agree that the white was a little stark. Maybe a warmer white would have been better but loved their red splashback to match the ceiling.

Blue guy was a brave man - not sure I would have stayed on site if my DH had said that

Again I loved the yellows kitchen, I HATED with a passion the blues splash back! Although I did like their bench top.

Yellows just looked so much more modern than blues this week.

Yeah that designer is annoying isnt she! Although I did think that Rachel was quite b#$chy towards her, she a part of me actually feels sorry for her!

Yip the yellows did a good job on the kitchen, wish they did a bit more on the garage may come in handy later on. I did not like the way the blues had the door in the kitchen, the thought of everyone in & out while you are cooking bugs me & if there are littlies then you have a worry.

I loved the colours, but was a bit small. I guess though you wouldnt go in there and close the doors so it wouldn't be too bad (and I could hide all my cluttered mess I usually have on my study desk!!)

Can't wait for Melissa to be dealt to! Must be really hard working with her because she's always off doing her own thing and not actually helping with the rooms themselves just the artwork etc. How it takes her that long to get something done is beyond me!!! Thought it was a bit unfair that the yellows had 3 rooms and blues only had 2 - less chance to wow the judges. I thought it sucked a bit that the presenter didn't actually state clearly that a study wasn't mandatory - noticed heaps of people comparing both study's but you didn't have to do one, the judging was actually only on the 2 rooms (kids and guest rooms). Yellow's kids room was really small because they wanted to have an actual room for their study (don't know if they said this on the tv or not? Hey BooBoo, the room was smaller because the yellows opted to have 3 rooms instead of 2 (the third being the "study"). Yeah I guess that they both have cots already so they may as well buy beds with the "free" money I guess!

Although in saying that the pink room could get very dated quickly?

Daizy I was thrown by the beds instead of cot thing too. I guess they are beds they don't have to worry about buying later.

I am a big yellow fan, but last night was slightly disapionted by their rooms, they just seemed so un creative and I know they can do better!

Totally missed the yellow teams office, but the blues seemed to be a bit of a joke.

And was there a reason they both had big beds in the rooms for their babies?

I liked the fact that the blues little girls bedroom was aimed at a child, the yellows room was lovely but better suited to an older child. I preferred the blues guest room also. however the study for me goes to the yellows....what a great study!

I do not have an overall fav but the blues have won all but the fisrt two for me.

I likes the Blues bedrooms, the little girls room was big & cute, hate the curtins should have done something different as they looked to big & messy.
The study was a joke.

The yellow I like all the rooms, but the babys room was aimed at an older child which I thought was a shame had they of gone for the cute baby factor it would of been better, I thought it was too small. With their win they will need a big storeage unit, good on them.

I like the yellows & hope they win, I have not taken a shine to the blues find then a bit stand offish (sp), but thats only the feeling I get from the tv.

I am looking forward to the blue teem walkoff next week, I sometimes feel sorry for her, but she seems to think its all about her whats with that.
