I'm pretty sure Brownwyn was the MW that was my MW's back up back up and covered while I was in labour when my MW had a dinner break. My midwife was Kelly Dorgan shes at midwives on barrington. She was brilliant - when we have our next baby i am gonna try and get here. She was great at standing up for what my husband and i wanted. And i know that at midwives on barrington each midwife only takes on 2women who are due in the same month. Obviously some women come early etc and it doesn't always work out perfect but at least you know they don't have heaps due at the same time. You also meet with a back up midwife and get to know them in case for some reason your midwife can't be at your birth. I found them brilliant!!! I found my midwife explained everything quite well, she took her time explaining and gave me pamphlets, so there was no real need to ask questions, but Im sure something will come to mind once you are chatting to her, you will think of stuff to ask.
I also found it quite daunting, but I found mine guides you along nicely, with info and appointments that you need, and what we will go over during our next appointment.
If you feel rushed in and rushed out, (which I had previously) I would suggest changing midwife

I've been seeing Wendy Walton from Midwifery Associates, and her backup, Kathy Anderson. Both seem very nice and professional and I have had regular visits and tests etc with them.
Which may sound obvious but reading other people's posts from up north not all MWs get clients to pee on a stick every time etc.
I too had no idea what to ask my MW when I first met her, it was all so daunting and being my first baby I felt lost and out of my depth in a new subject.
As long as they treat you nicely, with respect, aren't overloaded and have experience you should be fine.

My midwife is Jayne Huntley at Dominoes in Worcester St. She's really lovely and easygoing. Don't think she takes on too many in a month so she's not overwhelmed with other people.

Two other friends are using her as well which is how I got her name.

A friend of mine had Kate McKay and didn't like her at all. She is very VERY old school in her approach to birth and the first 6 weeks.

Merivale MW's are awesome but fill up really quickly with repeats.

Oh I know Rachel Milner personally and she is an awesome lady. She wasnt fully trained when I had my kids otherwise I would have gone with her in a second.
I had Barb Harwood, she was good. My sister had Kate McKay twice and didnt rate her at all to be honest but then I used to work with someone who had worked for the midwives association and she loved Kate so guess it just depends on who you click with.

Muz - My sister used Adrienne Hill for both her kids and loved her! I wanted to use her as well but she was booked up so instead I used Wendy from Merivale Midwives but she wasn't so great she had too many on her caseload and I never saw her she didn't even come to the birth because she had been up all night with another birth. That peeved me off because she was already in the building and just leaving as I was getting ready for my c-section. I had Vicki De Grut from Halswell Midwives and she was great! Also Tahlia Ono was her backup and ended up being there for the early birth of my wee boy, she was really awesome especially considering she was brought in at literally the last moment.

Recommend both of these.
