I agree with the having a big cleanout when we last moved I got rid of about 2 tralier loads of crap!!!!!

Start writing a list of people who mail you. When are the old people moving out? When I worked for a power company, if the old people moved out before the new people moved in, and it hadn't been signed up by new people, we disconnected the house.

That made no sense.

Sell on TM or get rid of anything you don't need to take with you, moving is a great chance to have a good clean out.

Phone/power/gas - what kind of heating do you have? Yep you can start packing extra kitchen stuff and books and clothes that are in-between sizes, etc, so that in a month's time things are not so bad. Otherwise I was just going to say phone/power/internet connections. We move on Friday and I second the idea of packing now. Start packing now so that you can get your house you are in tidy. Even if you move the boys into 1 room again and put everything into the spare room you have made.

Get your power/phone put on a day before you move...we moved in on settlement date to find out that the power had been disconnected at the pole and a technician had to come out - we were very lucky they could do it that day!!!

Also, sort out your insurance etc a few weeks before settlement - your lawyer will need a Certificate of Currency from the insurance company confirming the insurance, with the bank noted as an interested party, and it's better to have it a few days before just in case the bank has an issue with something on it.

So we have bought our first house. very exciting. went unconditional today.

we have two months to move and I am at a new job and feeling snowed under, so we are making a list of all the things we have to do - like organise house insurance, redirect mail, etc.
