Hi Shannon,
Not sure if you want or need this anymore but thought I'd put it up just in case. Have to remember that it is from a Mothercraft book that my MIL's mum was given with her first child so needs a little adapting. You could expend the length and use velco instead of ties and may or may not want to use the harness part. The harness would be fantastic for reflux babies that need their cot raised up.Best of luck with your safety sleep. Isn't it interesting how old this idea is and it is being marketed to mums as the new must have way of keeping your baby safe.

That is such a great idea, I was not going to buy one because I thought $99 for a SafeTsleep was too much money. My Mum made one recently for a single bed, and we are going to make another for a cot, with an extension for a single. She had been given a pile of material, and picked up velcro at the $2, so probably actually cost us $5 all up.

I second the idea of having 2! Nothing worse than having one in the wash and nothing to use.

I made mine, I hadn't actually seen one before but kind guessed how it goes. I used a long strip, as long as a double sheet is wide so I can use it on a double bed if I need too, that's a bit extreme though, I would just measure how long you would like it against your cot/bassinette.
Then I cut a short bit to go around bubs, put velcro on it and sewed it to the long strip. So easy, I don't know why lots of people don't make them.
The unfortunate part is that I am packing to move and have no idea where my measuring tape is so I can't tell you the size, therefore I haven't really answered your question at all...
I would recommend waiting until your little one is out and measuring how big you need the wrapping bit from there. You don't really need one for the first few weeks anyway, they pretty much stay where you put them. Also when I swaddle Jody the wrap fits perfectly, but now she likes one arm out so I really need to adjust it so it's a bit smaller.

Oh and if your MIL doesn't mind, I would get her to make 2 so when your little one's nappy fails you have a back up while the other one is in the wash.

I just used an old bed sheet for Jody's.

Just wondering if anyone has made one of these rather than buying them from the shops. Mil is good with sewing machine and has offered to make one but im not sure on measurements.
