Janine, I wasn't planning a trip to the hospital on account of a broken bone.... but on account of having a baby definitely next week (or earlier) (I'm too impatient for it to be any longer than next Friday)! Well, I was so sure last night that K's arm was broken - somewhere - especially after she woke around 2am unable to settle. I spent two hours just cuddling/rocking her between 2.30 and 4.30am, mostly because she couldn't get her suckly finger in her mouth

This morning she woke up still with a limp arm and crying but she wasn't as upset as yesterday.... a few hours later she was using her arm just as usual. So thankfully, the dr yesterday actually was right and it's okay. Phew!!

(Incidentally we were back at the dr's today for Briona - tonsil infection - and it was the same dr as at after hours yesterday. She said she was still thinking about Kryssi last night and was going to get our nurse to phone us today to see how she was...... so she was very pleased to see Kryssi today, using all limbs liberally.)

Crisis over, yay! If you are unhappy with a doctor's care then go and get a second opinion. The other week I had a dr tell me Dominic's ears looked perfectly healthy, I knew something was wrong though because he had no colour in his face, was crying and holding his ear. So I went to another doctor who took one look and said there was a very bad infection in his right ear.

Hugs T, NOT what you need right now! I wonder if it's worth taking her to your GP for a second opinion tomo just to put your mind at rest?

Sienna pulled a TV on top of herself in January, long story but luckily Mum and I were both in arms reach and I grabbed the TV and Mum grabbed her so it only landed on her foot and not her whole body, but her foot popped up in a massive bruise straight away and she wouldn't weight bear. I haven't tried that Shannon and she's just gone to bed, but I suspect it does hurt her to turn. It certainly hurts her when we gently turn her hand to look at the inside of her wrist. After being at the dr's tonight she has tried to pick up a couple of things off the floor and she does that and carries them to us with her palm down - just holding in between her fingers. It causes her a lot of pain though and that was just with a crayon.

I didn't realise that the fractures get easier to see in time. Maybe that's the plan of attack also. Apparently she went into shock (crying and shaking) when the dr examined her tonight and the dr said "she is definitely in pain" (insert sarcastic remark here).

Question, if her hand is facing palm to floor and you ask her to turn her hand so palm up dose this make the pain worse? I wonder if she has a crack in her radial head which would give forearm pain and increase when above is done however they can sometimes be difficult to diagnose. Just wondering if thats the line the dr is going down and so thats why he is ??? a sprain also in small children greenstick fractures can take a few days to show on an xray as they are only partital breaks so after a few days the crack becomes biger and easier to see on x-ray.

Okay, now I'm rather frustrated. The dr thinks it is a sprain in her elbow so has sent her home with iBuprofen. We are to watch it in the next couple of days and if it still seems a problem, take her back for an x-ray. How stupid! Cathrine, that's exactly what my gut says has happened. She is still not using her arm, except by accident, and then she cries every time. (It seems it is her wrist not forearm.) She is really tired now, having missed her afternoon sleep because she is too uncomfy, and won't even suckle her finger which is attached to that arm - as she does all the time to the point that it is almost callused.

that thing about it not being broken if they can wiggle their fingers is a complete crock. jake could wiggle - and his elbow was fractured. he was very similiar to kryssi. That happened to my cousin the morning of my wedding - her big brother pulled her out of the cot by her arm. They noticed during the day that she wasn't using it much, and the next morning was still not using it, and turned out she had a greenstick fracture and was put in plaster.

get it checked at A & E I swore DS had just sprained his arm coz he carried on playing and didn't moan about it until he had to do something he didn't want to do and I thought he was just trying to get outa stuff so to prove him wrong took him to the hosp and it WAS broken. Kryssi has hurt her forearm and I'm trying to figure if I am being paranoid or if we should get it checked out. (Why do medical things always occur on the weekends???) After a lot of cuddles, she is chatting and eating lunch but she is definitely favouring her arm and only using it by accident. She can wriggle her fingers but when she moves around/changes position on my lap, she cries and says it is hurting again.
