I had a theory that it made the burning worse (like when we have heartburn). So my son sleeps on his tummy and has done since he was 3wks old. I know its not recommended but he has been in our room until a week ago and it was the only way he would sleep.

He does it when he is tired or grumpy. I give him his dummy and try to calm him down, thats the thing Ive found works best...then I ignore him, so he knows that Im not going to put up with that.

Some days are worse than others and there always seems to be a different reason for Isobelle's screaming. Sometimes she is just overtired and it seems to be her way of tuning everything else out. Another time it turned out she had put on weight and needed her omprezole dosage reviewed, sometimes wind...etc. On the days when she is overtired nothing will work I simply sit with her (I think she is too young to cry it out) and she will eventually fall asleep.
I'm not sure if its a developmental or personality thing as Dominic wasn't a big crier.
Sorry that's not very helpful to you. Try not to worry too much about what other people say or think you know your baby best.

    Author: BeLoved
Subject: 25225
Posted: 15 March 2009 at 3:24pm

My 3 month old DD is a screamer. Whenever I begin to put her down for a nap, its seems as soon as she realises that is what is happening she begins to cry and this soon escalates to screaming and I mean screaming like I am hurting her, its sounds more like a toddler having a tantrum than a baby crying. She does it every time, except for when its bedtime at the end of the day. She even kicks her legs up & down like she is having a tantrum!!! I am almost tempted to record it, it is that extreme.

Today we went to Western Springs and she screamed the entire time (she was due to go to sleep) but just got more and more wound up until after an hour almost I just decided it was best to just go home rather than put everyone else out for a nice Sunday walk through that. Yesterday I was at the chemist and she screamed, I even heard someone say "There is something really wrong with that baby" but the thing is there isn't. She normally falls asleep after screaming for awhile (I always hold her until the crying/screaming stops before putting her in her cot) and she will sleep from an hour up to 3 hours. She is mostly always happy during her awake time. She does have reflux and is on losec but I dont think the screaming is anything to do with that. I have started to get use to it but whenever there is someone else around experiencing it they all seem to think its something I am doing wrong or something is wrong with her, or "shes hungry" "she needs her nappy changed" etc. when I know that it is none of these things.

To sum up all my rambling. she seems to scream as a way of winding down before she goes to sleep.

Has anyone else had this with their baby and did they grow out of it or does it just seem to be a part of their personality? Was there something you discovered that stopped the screaming?
