LOL, not even close for my DH. He's first home by about an hour (usually more), so he often gets dinner started and is sometimes at the door to meet me when I get home. Otherwise he hasn't done a thing and is in the computer room playing Quake.

you should have seen the house my DH walked into tonight!  It had been "Tommed"...and by a very unentertained Tom as I had been holding James all day as he was having one of those days.  Breakfast dishes still piled up on bench. No dinner anywhere in site and it was really hard to walk across the lounge without standing or tripping on something. But I did fold the washing....and those piles were in the way too.  I had trackies on that had apricot smeared over them (thanks Tom)....but no baby vomit as far as I can tell.  My hair had been washed, but not combed, straightened or defrizzed.  

 

He's a lucky man my DH..oh and he probably wont be getting lucky either

hehe definately written by a man!...not sure about you ladies but I have a very domineering matriach of a Grandma, can't imagine her doing any of this, especially not with her 6 children all a maximum of a year apart. I looked it up again , and on another version (which was exactly the same, except for this part ) they also imparted this "advice "

"Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children's hands and faces (if they are small), comb their hair and if necessary change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part."

haha at the "be a little bit more gay ..." bet that would interest him quite a bit ....

I find this amusing because my grandmother was a wife in the 50s , and I can not imagine her succumbing to any of these rules , they didn't nickname her the dragon when she was a teacher for nothing .....my grandfather was probably the one who had to do all these jobs .....

Hmm i'm sure not like that although i do do a couple of things namely the fire in the winter only cause i'm home first.

My DH knows he checks his balls at the door and picks them up again on the way to work and he is quite happy with th arrangement. What a crock- no wonder women fought so hard to get equality, I would go insane if I had to be that kind of wife!

A good wives guide of 2009 could be

-seeing as its highly likely you work JUST as many hours as your DH, make sure he does his fair share of the chores and cooking and childcare.

Just because he is a man doesn't mean he knows everything. If you disagree with him, tell him. You can be nice about it, but don't put up with BS. Your topics of conversation are JUST as important as his.

-ban playstations- you will never love it as much as he does, and you may end up wanting to throw it out the window.

haha, If this is what being a good wife is about ,poor DH got very unlucky ....

The good wives guide from 1955

    * Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have be thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they get home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed.

    * Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.

    * Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.

    * Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. Run a dustcloth over the tables.

    * During the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.

    * Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Encourage the children to be quiet.

    * Be happy to see him.

    * Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.

    * Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.

    * Don't greet him with complaints and problems.

    * Don't complain if he's late for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through at work.

    * Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or lie him down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.

    * Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.

    * Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.

    * A good wife always knows her place.

sounds to me like they thought men were pretty useless back in those days , and had to be handled with care, lest the poor poppets broke
