Jackson is below the 3rd percentile for weight and absolutely off the charts for weight vs height... but my paed still hasn't labelled him FTT. Unfortunately though others (eg Plunket) have thrown the term round and I wonder if they are too quick to do so.

Regardless, at least you are on to it Saffron and getting tests done. Hopefully there are some answers for you!

I had a boss who hated it (I work in health) b/c she thought it made mums feel guilty. At the time I didn't understand why the term would make them feel that way (pre-baby). The moment the GP wrote Daniel's referral for FTT I immediately understood what my boss was on about.

I have been looking at his weight measurements and he was 12kgs at 16months old and is only 13.2kgs now. He has lost 800grms but even without losing that it would have only been a 2kg weight gain in 7months. The practice nurse and plunket nurse both are using the phrase 'failure to thrive', gives me such a sick feeling, I feel like a terrible mum.
He had his blood tests this morning and he was so brave, didn't even cry but spent the rest of the morning holding his arm out from his body. He is definately tall for his age, right at the top of the chart. I know that it isn't a lot of weight that he has lost it just that he has never ever lost weight, not even after birth, so I guess it just scared me. He has also been guzzling water like you wouldn't believe so they are going to add a glucose test. I would be surprised if it is diabetes as there is no family history but it will be good to have peace of mind. Not looking forward to the blood test.
Thank you for all your supportive messages.

Hopefully nothing is wrong - it is always worrying when kiddies lose weight. If he has been complaining of being sore, it is good that they are checking it out, particularly if your gut is telling you something isn't quite right.

Having said that, his stats aren't too bad. I use this site as a point of reference - all the measurements are based on the WHO growth charts. He might just be tall for his age.

http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/infant-growth-percentile-calculator.php

I've been there and it's a scary time when you're wondering what's wrong. Remember that if you're not happy with the GP's outcome (e.g. if tests are inconclusive), then push for a paeds referral. He is 93cm tall, his head is 51cm around (massive is what she said!) but his weight is only 13.2kg. He is well under weight for his height even though he has a three good and balanced meals a day and morning and afternoon tea. I pretty much feed him when ever he is hungry, he is not eating as much as he used to though. I weighed him a couple of weeks a go and he was 14kg so in 2 weeks he has lost 800grms . He has also been complaining that he has a sore tummy and a sore penis and is often very tired but the dr found nothing obviously wrong with him so he is getting blood and stool tests tomorrow.
My instincts are telling me there is something not right with my little boy but I don't know what. I just hope and pray its nothing serious. I'm so worried.
