I know that's why I can't be bothered complaining - I went and brough my Exersaucer elsewhere yesterday I'm sure they liked my money! unfortunately from another shop this is missing the x-factor is customer service.

As for the xmas decorations I would have taken them back and asked for a refund and then brought them on special - cheeky??

Hannahbil i dont know how far you would get with the warehouse!! I had an experience with them where we had gone in and spent around $1-$2k in the store in a matter of a couple of weeks (xmas and moving into a new house) anyways the day after we spent $300 on xmas decorations etc i was in and noticed they had put them on special at 20% off. when we had bought the items we had asked if they would go on special and the assistant said no. I asked the lady at the service desk whether they would now give me the discount since i had my reciept and she just laughed and rudely said no! I was so angry i wrote a email to the warehouse via their website and heard nothing back!! Waited 2 weeks still hadnt heard anything so wrote them another email and again nothing back. You would think the warehouse of all places would actually get back to me. AS an update, the regional manager phoned me today, apologised for what had happened, when on about how they pride themselves on their service etc and it wasn't acceptable, and wanted my address to send me a voucher.

I'm actually pretty impressed that they followed it up so promptly, and the manager did go out of her way to emphasis how customer service is really important to them and she was going to make sure all the staff were aware of the issue, and if I ever had any more problems to call her on her mobile etc - I told her that I appreciated her follow up.

I hate bad service!

I was in a children's store the other week and there were a group of sales assistants chatting together in the middle of the store. At least one of them was off duty, but there were two who had name tags. They were loudly bitching about their boss and (ex?)co-workers. I was in the store for about 15 min and they didn't stop. It was obvious the other customers in the store was uncomfortable too.

When I went up to the counter to make my purchase one of the other attendants who wasn't so involved in the discussion served me and I told her that it was really unprofessional and to pass it on.

I hate that now I feel too uncomfortable to go in the store when it wasn't me who was in the wrong.

I just don't get why people don't try to work hard... don't they realise that there are so many people out there at the moment who really need a job? And why are people not managing their stores properly? Good on you for complaining poor customer service really annoys me too. Mind you i also hate =being asked constantly if i need help when i have already replied just looking.

I remember an incident a few years back when i was at uni a friend and i were out shopping and my now dh was with us anyway we were trying on clothes and chatting amoungst ourselves about them basically the sales assistant butted in and put her 2 cents in which wasn't appreciated dh had said to her to leave us alone she had the sale in the end she got so annoying and her comments worse that we ended up walking out with nothing i noted a few weeks later that she was no longer at that store mind you i never went in there again.

I admit I HATE going into chemists... I have dealt with fairly friendly sales people in retail, but chemists, never!!! They seem to look down their noses at me, and follow me around or stand blantantly watching me... grinds my gears!!!

Ha good for you Febgirl- I totally would've complained as well! That really p!ssses me off when I get bad service- it's just not good enough now a days.

I remember going into a shop years ago( I *think* Max) and asking for something  and the shop girl snootily looked me up and down and said coldly...'sorry, we don't carry your size'!! (I was a 14....at the most!).   Needless to say they missed out on my custom for many many years.

Yep, good on you for saying something!!

So often I go into clothes stores like Max during the weekends and I am ignored. The only conclusions I like to come to is that I don't look like I'm buying because I'm usually shopping in my weekend attire which consists of hoodies, canterbury pants and sneakers.

(I would hate to think that they've made a generalisation about me based on my race, body shape or whathaveyou but sometimes you can't help but walk away feeling like that)

I think sometimes retail staff make snap judgements which obviously works to the company's detriment.

I totally agree with you sending the email thats shocking, people are far quick to judge. Just because we may have children with us does not mean we are only window shopping.

I have done the same thing Mamapickles sister did
(but was not for a job) just so see what kind of service I would get, went into a shop dressed jeans etc and yip not served but another day with good clothes on and makeup and guess what service straight away funny aye

Good on you! I have had so many bad experiences in mainstream stores. Well that was fast - I got an email reply about an hour ago:

Hi , I am responding to your feedback regarding your experience today in our X store. At X we pride ourselves in good customer service and we takefeedback like yours really seriously. I have followed this up with the team and would like to invite you back to X to experience the great service we are known for. Could you please email me your contact number or call me on XX todiscuss this further. Kind Regards, XX Regional Manager

Problem is, the store they talk about in the above email isn't the store I went to!!! I contacted the store through their website, but the company must own more than one store, e.g. like how Sussans and Dotti are owned by the same company.

I feel a bit bad now, the staff in the store in the email I got must be trying to figure out who on earth complained!

Good on you!!

I used to work in a womens clothing store and the first thing I did was say hi and then leave the customer to walk round for a min(as to not bombard them) and then ask if they needed any help! I hated when the girls would stand and gasbag in front of customers(I was assistant manager).

I really hate that kind of thing.
I worked in retail for over 12 years and poor customer service is something I just won't tolerate.

My sister used to do mystery shopping during her uni days to earn some $$.
She was tasked with shopping at Country Road.
She went in once in her jeans and sneakers and was totally ignored.
She went in again in dress pants and shoes (hair and make-up etc) and was attended to right away.
She was apologised to profusely over the situation - the manager seemed genuinely upset.
But I do wonder if she was upset enough to pass it on to her staff an reinforce a high standard of customer service.

*eta: Let us know what kind of response you get from them.

And Max have some gorgeous stuff in at the mo, don't they?

Do you think its cause we have bubs with us that we don't get served? Is it just assumed that we are 'window shopping' and that we don't have money to spend. I have been looking for shoes for the dreaded return to work as I am dressed causally and pushing bubs I haven't been approached and like Febgirl's experience the shoe shop has been EMPTY almost. That's ok cause I quite happily found my shoes somewhere else as well. Oh and yesterday when looking for a walker for bubs in the Warehouse I asked the shop assistant who was busy stacking the shelves, I said hi and sorry to interrupt but can you please tell me if you have baby walkers in the store, she continued walking and snapped (no hello from her) I don't know what you are talking about but go over there and look! (she was a middle aged lady as well). Needless to say I left the shop without purchasing anything. I can't believe sales personnal can be so rude - with the media constantly reminding us that dollars are in short supply you would think a little service might not go astray.

I'm not the type of person who usually complains about things, but the experience I had this afternoon at a relatively upmarket clothing chain store (not going to name them) had me fuming! This is the email I sent them:

I would like to complain about the complete lack of customer service at your X store on the afternoon of Thurs 19 March 09. I visited the store with the express purpose of buying a dress for work, and had my 13 month old baby with me in a pram. I was never once asked if I needed any help or what I was looking for, and there was only one other person browsing in the store while the 2 sales assistants stood at the counter talking to each other completely ignoring me and I assume the other customer. I took several dresses into the change room to try on, which proved challenging as I needed different sizes and had to try and entertain my baby at the same time as trying on the dresses. If one of the sales assistants had bothered to come and see how I was getting on instead of talking to each other I probably would have bought something, but it proved too challenging trying to try on the dresses, find other sizes and keep my baby from crawling away. I left after 15 minutes without buying anything and went to Max where I was asked if I needed help straight away, and ended up spending over $200. I think the staff at the X store need more training in customer service, it simply isn't acceptable to ignore a customer who clearly needs help when the store isn't busy at all. I won't be returning.

Thing was, it wasn't as if they were teenagers who were in an afterschool job or anything like that - one of the women was in her 50s, the other in her 20s.
