I thought i'd come on here and give you a bit of an update on how today went, though you'll probably not read until tomorrow when no doubt Stacey will post her side of things.

I'm not going to beat around the bush, today was really horrible. Probably the worst day of my life. Stacey did great though. Her pains came on pretty quickly after they started the induction, and labour moved relatively fast from there on. I know she was thinking it was taking forever, but I think it took around an hour from the time we moved from the SANDS room into the delivery suite. After the birth, everything including placenta came away cleanly, which was a relief. The last thing either of us needed was complications.


When they tell you that a still birth is hard, you don't quite grasp what they mean by that. During labour itself, I just switched into my usual 'zone' I go into, and forgot about why we were doing this. As far I was concerned, my wife was in labour and I was her support person. It wasn't until it was all over that it sunk in. That was when we were meant to be feeling this absolute elation about having added another member to our family, but we weren't. Instead of weighing him, doing the checks on him to make sure he was healthy, and inspecting every minute detail on his face to see who he lookd like, our focus moved to things like death certificates and undertakers. The whole time, I just kept looking around at the posters on the wall and all the medical equipment that was mostly redundant for us. I just kept thinking how this was far from the kind of use that they had in mind when they built and opened the delivery suite.

I could write for days on this, but the sleeping pill I took to shut off my wired brain is starting to kick in, and it's not going to change anything anyway. We have a son who is soon to be just a distant memory, and no twist of fate is ever going to change that. I will never forget him, and I'm trying to think of something I can do in his memory to remember him by.

To any couples out there who have experienced a still birth or have lost their baby soon after birth, my heart really goes out to you.

I know they always said "Life's not fair" but did they really need to go to such lengths as they did today to prove it??

I have been contact with Stacey today. She had to wait at the hospital for a while to see the specialist who decided to do rounds first. Then her notes went missing. From what I know she is back home and now jsut waiting till Monday.

The staff in wellys were totally awesome. Palmy needs to take a few lessons from them. The doc told us that it has severe spina bifida and brain deformation so its highly likely it would be born with severe mental and physical problems and he was happy to sign off a termination and talked to our doc in Palmy and we can do it in palmy rather than wellys which is good for us and we can start the process on saturday. I hope hope hope its over by my bday (tuesday).

Its a weight off to know that it will be over soon. I'm so sick of the health system already..

We informed our MW of our decision and basically got told we aren't allowed to make that choice yet because the ob wants another ob to sign off for legal reasons and then the MW started a slight guilt trip on me which really quite angered me.

Every time I see someone I get asked about folic acid.. no one ever stops to look at my history and see that I was given methotrixate for my ectopic pregnancy. DH researched this last night and it by design stops folic acid interacting with DNA.. well there's the cause of this problem grrrrrr. We were never told of this when I was given it, we were only told to wait 6 months then things would be fine. This one was conceived 8 months afterwards.

We decided to go see our GP today who is by chance an ex ob to get his opinion on needing another ob to sign off our termination etc and if this is actually a legal requirement and he was awesome and immediately rang the hospital to find out what the hell was going on.

We still have to go to wellys which thankfully is on thursday and they have been informed of what we want thankfully and he thinks they will actually listen to us down there which will be nice.

As horrible as it sounds I just want this over and done with. It's going to be freaking awful but we can't move on until it's over and yes it may have only been a few days but a few days is a bloody long time when it's happening to you and I am already so far into this pregnancy.
