We've looked into it ourselves and according to the paperwork we have you'll def have to have her bio dads permission to make any changes to her name. If hes easy about it you're really lucky! hey Kelly, I think it's $125 and I'm pretty sure you won't need her Dads permisson on that one as your just changing her name from your maiden name to married. I think it's great that C's Dad is happy for her to change her name. (as long as it's not to Cinderella Isabelle Monique Rainbow Fufu Tutu, right?!)

Just wanted to add - about using a different name but not changing it legally - I had a friend a primary school and she used her Mum's married name/stepdad's name as he was her "Dad" and she didn't know her bio father. Noone had a clue of course and it wasn't an issue at all - until she went to Uni. There was a big drama as the university refused to let her use her Dad's name on her degree unless she changed it by deed poll.

I have a similar issue now - I'm married and legally in NZ I can use Mrs B ... but here I can't until I get a new passport because everyone wants to see your pp here for stuff. So frustrating!

Emz I think you may be right about it costing a bit , thats cool I was prepared for that ...

JD, the name she'll be taking off is my maiden name, so she'll have both her biological dads, and her stepdads surnames , instead of her biological dads and my maiden name .
This is so she has the same surname as her brothers (she has 2 on her dad's side plus Tyler on ours ) , her dad (biological ) has no prob with me dropping off my maiden name , hes pretty easy going .

Shes all for changing her name , tho she was a tad disappointed, she thought I meant she could change her whole name .
She wanted to be called Cinderella Isabelle Monique Rainbow Fufu Tutu.

just curious...is she ok with having her name changed? Just wondering as I have a daughter that has my maiden name and her fathers name hyphenated. There is no way she will change her name to have my married name instead of maiden name. Perhaps it is because she still sees her father (not sure what your situation is). I tend to not worry about it as she will change it when she is married anyway. It would be handy at times to have the same name, but not too much bother not having it the same.
Also, my dh has a daughter who didn't have his name on the birth certificate and when her mother remarried, she changed the girls name to her married name. The girl had no choice in the matter and doesn't really want the new name.

Its a great idea to have the same names has her siblins and fathers. I beleive that you will have to have the fathers permission...and as ems says, it will cost.

You could just use the new name and not have it "officially" changed. sorta the same but different but my eldest 2 are not DH bio children so at school they are - with their 'birth' surname and our surname.. its not legal but thats what they go by and thats what on school things etc.... say --- if you want me to explain more PM (hehe not willing to risk the same mistake as you Kelly and put surnames here LOL)

You will probably have to pay for that name change as it's not through marriage (ie her marriage) so basically it's like any other name change and will cost. you can download the forms online, and as its not HIS lastname your changing you may not need his permition at all.

Nope. Don't think so. As long as they're named on the birth certificate. Hey lovelies, wondering if anyone can help me , i'll try to make it as uncomplicated as possible !

When I had Caitlyn I was not with her father but he asked if she could have his surname, but I also wanted mine, so her last name is F****** - McGehan .
Now Im married ( yay!) and I want to change her name from F*****-McGehan to F****** -Seccombe .
McGehan was my maiden name, F***** is her fathers name,(and Seccombe is my married name ) this way Caitlyn has both her dads last names (DH is her dad too , IYKWIM ) and will have the same last name as both sets of siblings .

Does anyone know the procedure to go about this ?
