I am so looking forward to the 20 hours as Andrew turns 3 in April and it comes in around then so we will only have to pay for 25 hours. We have two kids at creche so am really looking forward to the 20 hours free childcare. Yep, I get Acc supplement ad family support (family assistance plus in work payment and child tax credit. We curently get a nice sum a week from IRD. DH isn't on the best income in the world but it does pay the bills. On top of that we get an accomodation sup. I must admit I am so sure everyone in Auckland can get this if they have children as we in Palmy who own our own home can only get a small amount, but it does help. The accom is done on where you live in NZ, how much you earn and if you rent, own or board. Then you have to give them your house expences (insurance, mortgage payments) and they work out your magical figure. Just wanted to add something....if you have baby partway through the financial year (1st of April-31st of May) then don't forget to take account of the money you have already earnt when you do your estimate of your income for Working for Families. Say you have Bubs in June & you have earnt about $8k in that time then you get Paid Maternity leave, you need to include that in your estimate so the IRD don't overpay you & then give you a bill the following year.

Just checked all of our finances on the IRD calculator and it says that we are entitled to $5 a week. I'll try not to spend it all at once

On a serious note, I think we'll actually leave that $5 in the govt bank for people who really need it. Like you Roksana we get paid well (I suppose lol) but we also have a huge mortgage. Thanks for bumping that Toni - and thanks everyone for your responses. I think we would get it paid fortnightly - we don't have any changes in income from pay to pay (no bonuses) and we will definately be needing that extra to get us through the time that I won't be working at all. You can apply on the IRD website (www.ird.govt.nz) or through www.workingforfamilies.govt.nz

You predict what your income for the year will be and they calculate your entitlement - try to be pretty close or you can end up with an overpayment bill at the end of the year.

Yes we have applied for it the threashold with 2 kids is amazingly high. I think you can earn eighty something grand. Its worked out on your current wage. And you can get paid fortnightly, weekly or yearly.

We have opted to be paid yearly. Just for the pure fact that my DH sometimes gets paid a bonus etc and if we got paid weekly we would have to pay some back. So just works out better for us if they work out total income at end of financial year and then how much they owe us. Such a bonus. I think i worked it out that we would get about $30 a week.
