Author: Maya
Subject: 25880
Posted: 16 April 2009 at 12:46pm

Grommets aren't the end of the world (I should know, I'm pretty much an expert - Mercedes has had three sets and Sienna has had two ). Before grommets they had continuous ear infections, Sienna's hearing was badly affected and they had to have their ears drained all the time as they just gushed gunk. Post-grommets they have been so much better.

What drops did they give you? Ciproxin HC is the best for persistent infection, but they aren't subsidised so are around $40. Otherwise, Maxitrol is subsidised and is fairly good, better than the Sofradex that is usually prescribed by GPs.

Best of luck with ENT, I hope his poor wee ear clears up quickly . I find a combination of pamol and kids nurofen works best when my girls' ears are bad. I occasionally give them phenargan as well - not just coz it helps them sleep when they're in pain, but also coz the antihistamine does have an effect on the fluid in their ears/nose and helps dry it up a little.

Peanut butter and
bananas are also the sort of food that can do this. Soya milk and fruit juices
are a good idea for a child with glue ear; they provide many of the essential
nutrients found in dairy products such as calcium and vitamins. If you are
worried about nutrition, ask a health visitor or doctor for advice. Or get in
touch with a local homoeopathist. Acupressure, homeopathy, herbs and
cranial osteopathy have been used to treat glue ear.

I called plunket before and they said he needs to be seen within 4 hours, as the antibiotics might not be working.
Looked at his ear before and now the redness has completely disappeared Im trying to figure out whether its to do with the drops that I am giving him, because his ear went pink not long after I gave them to him. The pinkness was coming and going over the easter break as well.

So, should I wait it out to the morning? Just the thought of waiting in line all night for nothing is really not my idea of fun.
Has anyone elses bubbas had redness with an ear infection?
