But get yourself an appointment with FA just so you can have the ball rolling, as ItchyFeet said.

Good luck!

We tried IUI first but were not successful (not unusual given what little we had to work with, but worth trying anyway).
IUI may help with the motility issue, as it bypasses the normal route and puts the little swimmers right up near where they need to be, rather than killing themselves getting there. A friend describes it as giving them a wheelchair to get there! IUI is non-invasive, just like a smear. It costs about $650 through FA in Auckland. IVF is invasive and expensive, so I'd make an appointment with FA (a private consult costs around $150) to get the ball rolling, and then find out what treatment options are available to you. PM if you want more info.

It is about $90 for three months supply, it is not available over the counter at chemists.

If you are with a specialist you should be able to get them to get it for you, I don't know whether local gp's can get it. Maybe something to check out Hope that helps, will let you know how our appointment goes next week. Author: mylilmosaic
Subject: 25897
Posted: 15 April 2009 at 11:07am

Hi Parki, just thought I would pop in and tell you our story. We have had two pregnancies last year end in m/c and DH's sperm count was good then, but this year two sperm analysis's have come back with low numbers and low motility but the second sample he did was way better than the first. I guess what Im saying is that they can vary alot.

But the outcome of having lowish count & motility was that we now have a review appointment next week with FA and the nurse told me our specialist was going to discuss possible IUI. I guess we will also discuss whether IVF is the next option if IUI doesn't work. One of the things we have done straight away is get DH onto Menevit as it helps improve the quality of the swimmers.

It has been quiet hard realising that we also now have both ovulation issues as well as sperm quality issues as we are both in our late 30's and time for me feels like its ticking on. I also could do to lose some weight so we have started running and hope that getting fitter will improve the quality of them too Oh also my DH had glandular fever more than a year ago and we wonder whether this affected his general health cause he now has to be careful not to get too tired or rundown.

I will come back and repost again once we have had our appointment next week as I will know abit more about our options then. This has probably been no help for you but I guess I know how you are feeling.

I have tried OPKs, charting and all that stuff, still no luck...
So we got some tests done and it showed that DH has low sperm motility most likely caused by an operation he had when he was younger & the ongoing medicine he has taken for the last 18 or so years of his life...

So my questions are:

Has anyone conceived naturally with their partner having low sperm motility?

Has anyone had to go through IVF or any similar procedures due to LSM?

Does anyone know any ways to increase sperm motility?

TIA

Edited by Parki
