I have exactly the same problem First - and unless there's two of us there distraction doesn't usually work either...    I was hoping it was a short phase but sounds like we might be stuck with it for a while!! I am getting better at changing him standing up though - even in cloth! I definately couldn't master putting his nappy on while he is standing - he is in cloth. Hi, I found that holding his little feet quite high up in the air made him balance on his shoulders and that sometimes gives me enough time. (doesn't make him cry either)
If it is just awet nappy then I change him standing up, he stays still for longer. Haha we're in the same boat. In fact have been since the girls were about 7 months old...... and they still do it coming up a year old

Distracting with toys sometimes works for us some times doesn't needless to say its a nightmare. Bath night has become bath month now because of it lol.

We have just entered this territory and I nearly went mental trying to change his nappy and get him dressed today, was definately deeeeeeep breath time. I think we are going to have change on the floor now and not the change table as it was nigh on impossible to get it done up there with the desperate arching/twisting/kicking etc etc

We did the distraction thing for months successfully but nothing cuts the mustard now, not even letting him play with the wipes or clean nappy which always did the trick in the past.

Distraction works for us. I use all sort of things from letting Emma play with the odd toy she doesn't normally get (tape measure, little bottles, clean nappy) to singing songs/making animal noises and kissing her to distract her. This might set a dangerous precedent but what I did was give him something he wasn't normally allowed but alway wanted to play with. Oh god I feel your pain!!! Caden is SO SO bad at this and it drives me mental, he gets so angry when I'm dressing him and changing his nappies. I can hardly hold his feet still and a few times he has put his heel right in his pooy nappy! yuck!
Now I get kicked in the bump and it hurts

I give him a toy or something crinkly to distract him, but some days nothing works and it takes me a good 10 mins to change him.

I hope Caden grows out of it soon as well

Yeah I have tried and still try the distraction plus 9times out of 10 I pin him down as you have discribed. I just feel awfull pinning him down. It feels like he's been doing this for months now. We have the same problem and I agree with Flutterby and Daizy - we have a special toy (a little doll that she just loves but has a hand-embroidered outfit so we limit her play with it) that we give her when she is being changed. It works wonders!

I have a few little toys that are just for change time. One is a vaseine jar that I've washed out really well - she likes to have what I've got. If you stretch both legs out in front of you (sitting on the floor), you will be able to pin his shoulders down - essentially his squirming will determine the pressure/weight required from you. It sounds awful but I think the simplest way is to get it over and done with really fast. Maddi is just the same. Most of the time I am able to give her a toy or something to distract her, even giving her the wipes keepd her busy.

When that fails and DH isnt anywhere to help I sometimes have to end up pinning her down with my feet on her shoulders

Oh and I always make sure she has on easy to pull up pants and top.

Every nappy time and every time I dress my son it is war. He rolls, screams, archs his back, crawls off and more. It takes all my energy just to keep him still.
I know its probably a phase but please any ideas would be great!
My currant solution and its not working all that well is to pin him down under my leg while he wails and screams. I don't want nappy and dressing time to remain this stressfull!
