I have had recurring ear infections my entire life and am always given drops from my specialist. GP's always want to give me antibiotics but drops are far better. Can't go wrong with a course of sofradex usually.

I got severe recurrent ear infections as a littlie and since I was allergic to pretty everything my mum used garlic oil on a warm teaspoon, dropped into my ears and plugged my ear with cotton wool. On the odd occasion my eardrum perforated the garlic oil went onto a piece of warmed cotton wool then was tucked in my ear. If it's for his ears, you could try drops? really DPs mum told me his brother use to hold his breath to get his own way and she talked to the doc about it and he told her to leave him and let him pass out cos his body will automatically start breathing for him again.

Get tough with him, hold him and stick the syringe insert medicine into his mouth and leave it (the syringe) in there until he has swallowed the medicine. Then give him big praises when he's done.

We always use a syringe. If its pamol as soon as he tastes it he is fine, but he hates taking ABs with it. I literally hold him down (just hold him like a baby and tuck his arms under mine) and put it in in very small amounts so he cant spit it out.

We did hide it in apple puree once. Could be worth a try. I had a leftover tin of baby stuff which I used.

When Daniel doesn't want to take medicine I just get tough, put it in a syringe and hold him down and in it goes. Oh e-mycin gives really sore tummies so he has probably developed a bad association with medicine now. Even after finishing his course Dom had very sore tummies for about a week. I'd get some probiotics to help him get all those good tummy bugs back. Is he allergic to penicillin? Drs usually give that one if you are allergic to penicillin. Sorry I don't have any useful tips for getting the medicine into him. My boy use to be so good at taking medicine...you use to say medicine and he use to run up and take it on spoon or syringe but this last month he has decided not to want to take anything...........he had both ears infected 2 weeks ago and got e-mycin which is bright pink so guessed i couldnt hid it very well....took him back today and they gave him a different brand that looks like milk and tasts like lollies as his ears have gotton worse and now his throat too..........i have tried everything i know including putting it in his bottle....but now he has guessed and wont drink he barely eats so am stressing out any suggestions we will try........oh and he never sees us put it in anything he is just one on to it little boy........i dont want to see him in hospital hooked up to IV to get stuff into him and this stuff needs to be given 3 times a day. ]]> Fri, 17 Apr 2009 18:29:04 +0000 https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=25954&PID=662708&title=urgent-medicine-help-needed#662708
