You are right Mrs H. I found the paw paw ointment was making it worse so have stopped using it for the time being. It is drying up abit which i'm not sure is a good thing or a bad thing! Someone may correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it's not a good idea to use the paw paw cream if it's thrush. Baking soda in the bath water is fantastic.  Baking soda softens the water and it also has antibacterial properties. 

With Michaela we would also make up a solution of baking soda and water to use in place of plain water on her bum cloths. 

Don't use baby wipes, they're full of horrid things that will just irritate his bottom.

Another trick is to smear manuka honey on his bottom.  I know it sounds odd but manuka honey is a well known wonder cure.  Many international hospitals use manuka honey on their burns victims with great success (try and get one with a high UMF for best results and if you use cloth nappies you might want to buy some disposable liners while you use manuka honey).

When you see the doctor ask about Micreme H (has to be H and not just micreme, the steriod really does the trick to clear it up).

I was told that a "rule of thumb" with bum rash was if it's on the cheek it's more likely nappy rash, and if it's in the crease it may be thrush.
Thrush thrives in a moist enviroment so I'd try to give him as much nappy free time as possible, and change him frequently when that's not possible. As it's not worrying him a great deal, don't let it worry you too much. What is the difference? I am guessing my baby boy has thrush... it started out as a small red patch around his bum (which would usually clear up with paw paw ointment) but it hasn't - it's spread a little bit and has little red bumps :o( I have a Dr's appoinment for Monday, but am wondering does this sound like thrush? Anything which I could use to help him in the mean time? He doesn't seem overly bothered by it and I am using water to clean his bum at nappy changes and giving him lots of no nappy time, anything else I can try for now?
