I didn't use one with either boy - and probably won't with this one. We have a dri-cot blanket under the sheet for any accidental spills during the night, but other than that it's all mattress.

We've got the Dr Sprott cover as well - doesn't hurt was my theory. Only issue I have found is how noisy it is - every time Joshie moves it makes noises. I use a dri-cot and then a cotton mattres protector and top of that and then a sheet. I have never had accidents make it throuth the dri-cot on to the mattress. I never used one with Paige... not using one with this Baby either.

I thought about getting one but decided against it. Late in my pregnancy we put a waterproof matress protector on our bed in case my waters broke in the night, and I couldn't believe how much I sweated! I was really uncomfortable, so I didn't get a cover for my boy.

I used one of those Dr Sprott plastic covers. To be honest I have no idea how important it really is as I've read lots of different things that say "yes" and "no". The only thing is if you really believe in the whole method your supposed to use 100% cotton between baby & the plastic which I never did.
I found it pretty good myself for keeping my son's mattress clean against accidents (it still looks brand new!) and it didn't seem to bother him sleeping on the plastic.
In fact I'm kind of glad I used it as I have put Alex into a bed & that also has a mattress protector on it that doesn't bother him. Whereas my cousin's girl seems to have problems sleeping because of the rustling of the mattress protector on her bed since she isn't used to it.

If you don't want to use it then don't. Its not a rule & its definitely your choice. Anyone going to use the Dr Sprot thingy? My sister in law gave me her old one and I dont know if i want to use one or not - seems like it would be uncomfortable to sleep on plastic!?!?!?! But ofcourse if it is importnat then I will do it? I dont know - what has everyone else done?
