BOD = beauty on demand, yep they do all sorts of beauty treatments and they can come to you or you can go to their salon in Ponsonby.

The league is played at Ericsson Stadium, which is miles away. But it is doable (thats a LF word) .. its just under an hour on a bus though, so he would have to be a pretty big fan. So many good suggestions that Im now even more confused as I cant make my mind up! DH has left it all to me haha more fool him.

On Sunday ..

You could walk down to Victoria Park Markets through the viaduct along the waterfront area. If the weather is nice you could have a picnic in Victoria Park (which Victoria Park Markets is across the road from).

You could also go to Mission Bay (which is in the other direction) .. in the central city they have bicycles that you can hire (they are just located on the streets) .. its a relatively easy (and mostly flat) bike ride along the waterfront to Mission Bay and you could have brunch there. (You could also catch a bus .. it wouldnt cost much).

Ooo another thing you could do .. is get his and hers massages. You could either get someone like BOD to come to your hotel room (they come with the massage tables and everything) and be pampered, or you could go out to a spa and then have brunch.

Or you could jump on a ferry to devonport (as its a relatively quick trip) .. and have some brunch and walk up mt hobson and check out the view across to Auckland.

We often stay at the Duxton, it's walking distance for the city shopping but also Ponsonby and K Rd. Last month we went up for a concert and stayed at Waldorf Apartments by Vector Arena and I would totally recommend them. We got a very cheap deal through wotif and its really close to everything downtown and close to all the buses to take you to Newmarket and Parnell. Its so hard because we want to cram as much as we can into the day because we arrive at 6am on the Saturday and leave at 3pm on the Sunday.

Hi, we normally stay at Citylife its great steps right out onto Queen St and is a short stroll to the Casino, Viduct ...   We have normally managed to pick up a great deal on wotifcom that also includes breakfast which is really nice. A couple of times as well we have arrived and our room has been upgraded for free - so we get a little apartment with a kitchnette, lounge and separate bedroom!

We've stayed at the Airedale (sp?) on Queen St a few times and it was awesome, very central and the rooms were really nice. Yeah and if you stay in Town you could catch a train to Sylvia park (just another mall but quite a nice one). But agree with Julia don't try and do a trip out to dressmart without a car.

The dressmart here is probably just like all other dressmarts

The only thing is .. if you dont have a car, Auckland isnt the most public transport friendly city and Onehunga isnt going to be incredibly easy to get too.

Dont get me wrong, obviously it can be done .. but according to the maxx website its a 90 minute train journey or just under an hour on a bus.

Personally if I was going for that short amount of time, I would chose to do things in the city centre so you didnt have to travel.

You can shop in the city centre.

You can catch the ferry to Devonport or Waiheke

Newmarket would be super quick to get to from the central city (you can shop up a storm there)

You could go get gold class seats at the cinema (the ones with lazy boys) .. and have dinner in town.

Oh and I think the Aotea Market still runs Friday nights and weekends.

I have stayed at most of the hotels in central Akld with work but my definite fav is the Sky City Grand. You mentioned you stayed at the Casino but this is a hotel directly next door and links on to the casino.

Grand

It is sooooo luxurious and has cute little signs in the room like "Go Ahead Make My Bed"

As for things to do I would recommend things like:

Day trip to Waiheke on the ferry, lunch at Mudbrick
Dinner in Ponsonby
Long Bay (my fav beach)
Walk round the Domain and up Mt Eden (great view)
There is also great shopping of course like Newmarket, Botany Downs etc

The Sebel is lovely .. and its located in the Viaduct, so nice and close to all the nightlife.

The Hilton is nice too .. great location, but the rooms at the Sebel are nicer.

Otherwise if you go a little further up the road, there is the Heritage. If you get a one bedroom room (as opposed to a studio, they are nice rooms). The Heritage is located near the casino.
