yip my MW has booked me in with the specialist to get it put in. She said that of course docs do it but shes had a few mishaps with mothers comming back preggas after the doc did it!? so she prefers to put her mums in with the specialist she works with. It was 10 weeks by the time I had mine fitted. Apart from feeling a bit crampy weird all seems good. I don't know if the crampy feeling has anything to do with the IUD though and I don't get it all the time. Seeing family planning next week for check up so will ask them.

Teresa having it for just 6 months is no problem. Taking the pill will be a huge thing for me considering I haven't been on it for at least 10 years! I'd actually prefer not to...maybe I should read those websites & put myself off abstinence is working well for now

Amber you cant get one until bubs is 6 weeks. I think Marisa got one at 8 weeks? I'd be more inclined to wait til then.

I think my one has slipped & that is why I was being stabbed by the nylon & it had to be trimmed, the Dr won't trim it for me again so that is why we think that I'm allergic to the nylon. Family planning down here get you to come in a month after insertion to check it out and then you are suppose to check the string after each AF (that's when it's most likely to move/come out). It's 99% effective, so the most effective form of contraception besides the big V or abstinence.

Kel I've just found out how they get the hormones for the pill and I will never take it again, I find it morally and ethically disgusting, but that's a whole other thread. Im going to get one of the copper ones put in when this bubs is a few weeks old and am now a bit worried about it slipping and getting pregnant again!!! at this point this is our last baby but we are not willing to say no for sure but still want something surefire!!

I think I've made the decision just to get it taken out & take my chances with trying to remember to take the mini pill or use rain jackets

Cause the Ultrasound might show it's in the right place & I'm not happy with how it is so I will get it taken out anyway.

T, the multiload one (no hormones) they take out and you can pregnant the next day....lol. Not sure about the mirena one as it has hormones but I don't think it would delay things anymore than coming off the pill.

Kel the doc told me removal is nothing compared to inserting it, what a pain that you might be allergic and are having so many problems.

I need to go get mine checked, suppose to go back a month after insertion and it's been 5 weeks now, so naughty. The only problem I have is that I constantly feel the same as i did in the early stages of pregnancy, with a heavy uterus and a bit crampy all the time. Not sure if that's just cos I've not had a period yet though. I've had increased discharge too but not as badly as you are getting it. Hmm I am about to get one put in (confirmed tomorrow by gyne). Mine isn't for contraception it is to stop the bleeding. I am getting a MIrena so fingers crossed it works for me. If I do have to get it removed I get my big op.

T it would be worked out on what IUD you get put in - if it is a normal copper one then it should take too long to be knocked up again.

Hmmm that is what the Dr is worried if it's slipped that means it's inaffective.

How the hell am I supposed to know if it's slipped or not, sure I can feel the threads but how do I know if it's come down or has it already come down that is why I'm getting what I'm getting.

T, I know that you can have it taken out when you have your AF, as there are no drugs I'd imagine that you'd be fine to TTC straight away. Oh don't know if you went for the Mirena with the drugs, I've just got the Multiload copper one.

Am going to phone about my swabs tomorrow & phone about an ultrasound, but am in two minds of maybe just getting it pulled out.

I'm over having to still have to use pads everyday. I have variatant ranges of discharges so I have no idea what is going on. Also have a range of sensations most not good as well I have made the decision that I'm not waiting til Coopers next check up to reassess. I've had an IUD removed but unfortunately cant really relate to your situation as such, i was pregnant on the IUD so they removed it and then 2 weeks later i lost the baby, It took 48 days for me to get my next period, about 2-3 weeks later than it normally is but i couldnt tell you whether it was because of the IUD removal, or the M/c though. Mine was in for about 2 years also before it was removed and the reason they think i got pregnant was because it had slipped out of place. I wasnt very good at checking it so probably my bad there. When it was taken out they called me into the hospital (coz of pregnancy) sat me on a bed used a forcep and pulled it out, there was a really sharp pain for about 30s then about 1 minute after that i was all good again.

I had my merina (something like that) in for about a year before i was getting uncomfortable feelings in that gereral area - had an ultrasound (covered by Southern Cross) and it was sitting fine, but had it taken out anyway.
