Well done Emma, I dont think I have actually got anything to put into saving yet but I havent been doing to bad.

Still havent had any takeaways which is really good for us and DH hasnt brought himself lunch.
I did stumble in to the mall the other day and just happend to accidently buy some boots I am sure I still had some birthday money left....

Another $345 into savings today, which makes a total of $545 since 1 May so even tho I haven't been sticking religiously to my no spending rule I've still managed to save a bit.

We haven't been doing tooooooo bad. We haven't had to buy many groceries etc because we're staying at DH's parents, and I have been putting the extra money into the savings account and onto the credit card to pay it off. We managed to get the paint for the nursery at massively discounted prices (between 33 and 49% discounts for all of it), got a plasterer mate to do the plastering at a good rate and DH's work is doing our excavation for the path for no cost. BUT I had one major slip up I failed my last exam by 6 marks, which means I have to pay work back the cost of the course....$770. They take it out of my pay which is great.....except I only have 3 pays left before I go on maternity leave, which means a deduction of over $200 per pay, which we just can't afford. I had Mcdonalds yesterday cause I was starving, I have this nasty habit of forgetting to eat, plus I hadn't been to the supermarket this week. I'm much more organised when DH is around.

I am going for coffee tomorrow morning as well but am going to be taking a packed lunch for the Zoo trip I'm going on with the school

Then I have Christchurch this weekend so that might be not good, least I don't actually have the money to spend for shopping so it will probably only be spent on food.

I promise from next monday I'll be good

eta...I didn't pay for the Chch trip so that's all good

I feel like I've been doing OK ... we've just moved into a new place so had a few bits of furniture to buy (now in a house more than 2x the size of our old apartment!) but we went to Ikea on Saturday and took a list .. and we ONLY bought the stuff on the list. Nice work me & DH! Haven't been out for many lunches either as I've been so busy with the move

Got my hair cut on the weekend too but that was definitely essential - first time since C was born

Gutted Heaf3, I just saw your other post . I can relate as my DH has had his hours cut right back but we can almost absorb it coz I'm back at work now, if I was still on maternity leave we'd be up the creek without a paddle.

Right I think I am finally ready to start Still got to work onconvincing he doesnt need the extra slice of cake every time.

I did end up spending a bit on clothes and lunch last week but we havent had takeaways since the first night which is really good for us and have only had the one trip to four square (a friend just had a baby and I had to bring them something).

I didnt buy Keira the coolest dress I have ever seen so that saved me $30 and I stuck to just one pair of jeans.

We also managed to do our groceries for $110 including mothers day presents so not to bad.

 

Right from now on - no more spending!

I bought Bake this morning too, but as a present for a friend.

I do have a confession to make tho - I had a major, major accident in Pumpkin Patch and it is all Sheryl's (our designer) fault. She ordered these gorgeous riding boots in for a shoot and I fell in love with them so this morning I went to Patch and bought them for Sienna. Mercedes picked a different pair so they now each have a new pair of boots. OMG that booooookkkkkk.... Can't wait til I pick up my copy (which my parents have decided buy for me for my bday )

I spent a huge amount at the supermarket - $150 haha it was so much fun!!! No treaty stuff but it'll mean no more shopping for a month except for fresh fruit

I sold our breadmaker so that'll be going straight on our vet bill yay and DP has his refund coming through in the next week or so which means vet bill completely paid off and a big chunk of the CC gone!!! I'm kinda excited I love the idea of only paying our mortgage and utility bills. OMG I suck!

I bought lunch yesterday but got a free coffee worth $5.00 so that was good but I needed a pick me up after getting my IUD out

Today I went to listen to Alison Gofton speak & I bought her fabulous book Bake...golden syrup steamed pudding drool drool

I also bought Alia poppa jacks in the shopping cause today she ate all her lunch YAY so can have a treat for the next week.

Ummm I also bought more Itti Bitti's but I reckon they are necessary cause they are saving me changing Cooper 5 times a day with his super poo!

omg no wonder I always get feedback that I pay quick if theres buyers out there like that! I've got stuff to sell too if/when I ever get it organised so hope I don't get any of those bad buyers.
Well went yesterday to get the new toaster and ended up buying a pedometer too for $11. Not exactly necessary spending but have been wanting one for ages to see just how far I do walk in a day doing school dropoffs and pickups, going to town as well etc. And I used the friends and family thing at the warehouse and got a $50 4 slice toaster for $25 so that was cool. oh god dont even get me started on the buyer for some of our dvds on trademe,....(ok just cos i like to complain) she won the auction like a month ago and emailed to say can she pay next thursday (this was on a monday so about the same time frame as you emma) then she asked how much postage would be. i emailed her back as soon as i found out (probably 2 days later) and this was like 2 weeks ago....she had the nerve on monday to place bad feedback about me saying i have not heard from you in three weeks...and its her fault not mine...so frustrating.

WTG on the oven Heaf3!

i've had a mixed week, some good, some not so good.

Saturday was a no spend day - didn't spend anything at all!

Sunday we had to go and buy Maya's soccer boots and school shoes which meant necessary spending, but I am proud to say that I only bought what I went to buy, no impulse buys. *however* we did have KFC for dinner at the park to celebrate the girls all doing so well at their athletics prizegiving so that was $40 down the tubes .

Monday was a good day, I did have to do a top up shop at Countdown, just fruit and veg, but I didn't spend anything other than that.

Yesterday I slacked out and bought my lunch coz I didn't get around to making it in time . So that was $10. BUT I did transfer $200 into savings .

Today was a no spend day except the $30 I spent getting lunch for a work meeting, but that doesn't really count coz I bill it back to my boss so technically it wasn't my spend.

So that's my confessions. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how I'm doing. I'm waiting on a Southern Cross refund of around $300 which I will put into savings plus after the gremlins see the immunologist tomorrow I might be able to put some more across coz I'm keeping a bit surplus in my chequing acct for that. It's $220 per child per visit but sometimes she only charges me for one so if that's the case, I will put the other $220 into savings. Either way it can all go in savings when I get it back from Southern Cross.

Oh and all my TM auctions sold A bit at the lady who won my straightener auction which closed on Mon - she emailed me today to ask if she can pay me NEXT wed, as in 10 days after the auction closed! .

well i've been really good, day 3 being a sunday I didn't expect to buy stuff as didn't go near any shops. But DH surprised me with my bday pressie early .. a car!! But that doesn't count though, as it wasn't my purchase lol

Monday I started our new food shopping budget of $120. Bought what we needed except for meat and veges. Have $50 left for that, so going well.

Yesterday was my bday so expected to spend a bit. Spend $200 (but only $50 on me!) rest was on my stepson who is turning 13 on fri. Then DH bought my fave thai for dinner and a yummy bday cake, but i didn't ask him how much. Still doesn't count tho aye lol

Ok i suck at this too i brought new dinner sets which although i can argue i need i really dont right now i brought seeds with high hopes of starting a garden which i think is justifiable my cancelled credit card has lasted a whole 4 days as when i switched banks yesterday they offered me one which i jumped at (they dont have debitplus so will switch when that comes in) it will be only half the limit of my last one so i guess thats ok.

However tomorrow i plunge myself into $160000ish worth of debt as we get the keys to our new house which is going to start a whole raft of spending i just cant resist ie paint, curtains, wall stickers for the boys room, a massive basic grocery shop and alot of petrol travelling to get our stuff out of storage in chch.

Well, as predicted, the start of the week didn't go so well - trip to Ikea resulted in one new casserole dish (which we do need and at least I didn't buy Le Creuset which is what I would REALLY like) and the insert for C's high chair. Then we had lunch out and then later I bought a drink at a cafe - but again, needed to feed C and soooo much nicer in a cafe chatting to friends than in a boring nursing room!

Oh yeah, and I got a $1 hotdog too .. but that was my cheapest purchase all day

I'd like to join in on this too..though I'm mostly pretty good at not wasting money I do go through phases of being able to justify spending on some dumb stuff. I often go to the supermarket several times a week too which I'd like to stop.
Have done well for the month so far, haven't bought anything but today our toaster stopped working so am going to get a new one tomorrow. To me, this sounds like the cabbage soup diet, but with money!
A monthly budget is a long term solution to stop spending money unecessarily. We make a budget at the beginning of each month and track our spending against that. I used to be a terrible spender before I started up a budget.

We did pretty well over the weekend here. Saturday I didn't leave the house and yesterday we went to friends' for a BBQ. We were in charge of dessert so I made chocolate brownies and then bought some fresh fruit to make a salad. Yum.

Not expecting to do so well today though.. my friend is coming to pick C and I up to go looking at outdoor furniture. I'm focussing on getting our place cleaned up today - taking all the rubbish to the tip, organising the dog kennel, clearing out the spare room and dropping everything off in town thats going. We didn't do too well over the weekend. Spent about $50 down in Wellington while at the rugby and then went to town yesterday and spent another $22.50 on a cute little baby jacket.

In my defence though - we could well have spent A LOT more on both outings.

I am doing well - quite into it really!!! Still only day five though! Haven't brought any coffee which is my big vice so feeling very virtous about that! Also went and looked around shops and normally would have brought something but didn't. well I have to confess too....bought a new cake tin and muffin trays yesterday but they were half price...not that i can use them now - our oven light blew so went to go and replace it..spend $11 on a new light and it still doesnt work so now gotta get an electrician to fix it - im not using the oven til its fixed! im so paranoid...

Day 2 has gone really well, zero spending! DH is working so I'm sure he's bought food but that's cool as he has sanity money to keep him going. It's been sooo cold that Layla has been snuggled on me all day, so we're just chilling out Had pizza for lunch from last nights takeaway leftovers, and will be making chicken stirfry for dinner.

Yesterday was good, a friend & her DD came around for tea & rugby. I told her before she came over that we will cook together as I'm not buying takeaways So we cooked & made popcorn.

Today DH wanted to drive to Taihape to buy new jeans When I was out before I stopped into Spotlight & got iron patches for his jeans, you can get invisable ones!

Yesterday was bad....I bought morning tea (hot choccie, a small pie and a piece of slice - $12) then lunch (Maccas because I ran out of time - $9.20). That was all though!!

Friday nights, instead of takeaways, we have toasted sandwiches - easy as to make, quick and can be healthy. DH has bacon and egg ones.

The next few weeks will be easy while we're at the in-laws - no groceries etc. We're also saving with fuel, as only running one car so $40 fuel will probably last 3 or so weeks instead of the usual $60 a week. It all goes in a separate account.

Have also saved $200 a year by switching DH's car insurance over to my work.

And I plan to start the meal planning soon too....and see how it goes...we spend $150 a fortnight on groceries at the moment but I want to get it down because we buy a lot of crud.

Essentials this month - pay the plasterer, and the lady who made my wedding dress...rates....and normal other bills. Coffee date confessions - I ended up spending $11.30 coz I did have cake as well. BUT when everyone else had a second round of drinks, I had water. Plus a friend gave me some $50 she owes me so it was actually a profitable excursion .

Todays aim is a nil spend - we're taking the girls to a show today but we got the tickets free, and I'm making a picnic lunch to take with us so we don't have to buy drinks etc. there. I'm in! I started last weekend cutting down and we didn't spend any extra money on food all week (that's HUGE for us) and just used up what was in the pantry and freezer.

Last night was takeaway night, which we just decided that Friday's will be. Alot better than any night of the week, as we typically would eat takeout at least 2 -3 x (esp as i'm the cook of the household, so if I can't be bothered, we grab takeaway). Also had subway as Layla had her first playdate so Panda and I grabbed subway for lunch.

So essentials for the month is just groceries, petrol and paying bills. Oh, it's my bday on Tuesday and Bailey's 13th on Friday, so DH will be spending up large next weekend on Bails, but apart from that, will stick to the new budget I created. Day 1 round up in Singapore (as I have no more plans to leave the house)
Just been to the supermarket and I took the train there instead of a taxi Bought Thank You cards for all the gifts we've received for Callum (essential and long overdue), a sun hat for C (also essential) and $50 worth of fresh veg, milk, yoghurt and cheese Avoided grabbing a cheeseburger (savings = $2 lol) but had to have a coffee at Starbucks so that I could feed C while I was there. And taxi home because I needed to get C to bed!

Extras that could have been avoided - 5pack bibs from Mothercare $21.

Hey all im joining this too!! I think we are pretty good on our tight budget however I find that I should have a certain amount left over each week and never do. So really need to track my money.

Our essentials are groceries, bills, petrol, and an allowance for DP and I. The rest of the money is going into the savings account. I wanna cut down the unneccesary take aways too. I am now giving DH sanity money so if he wants to spend that then that is fine, I am giving myself the same BUT I am going to save it for something I want to actually buy, like more Itti Bittis...yep putting hand up, I'm a freak!

Weekend will be interesting, we have things that we are doing in the weekend which may entail spending money but am not sure yet.

I also am going dog showing next weekend = extra petrol, I will take snacks & then after that we are going to Chch so that will involve spending

I think we are going to aim for $100 a week on groceries and anything we have left we can use on any extras that we really need (like DH's lunch on a Saturday or going to a friends for lunch and having to bring something)

I have set $400 for my birthday (my annual clothes shop) As well as a dinner or lunch out (and maybe something in there for DH to buy me a present)

 

Our biggest problem is we end up spending a whole lot on who knows what, trips to foursquare for icecream and then end up buying a whole lot. I dont know where the rest goes but we are definately spending far too much at the moment.

i'm in. I am going to cut down on take away coffees (I have one everyday) and then just other unnecessary spending that I sometimes do if I am in a shop eg things kids can do without. I have just started meal planning so am going to make an effort to just stick to what is on the list and not to make extra trips to the supermarket.
The coffee is the big thing for me! It sounds ridiculous but I just LOVE my daily flatwhite. it gets me through my sleep deprived days. Was watching the 40 hour famine adds though and have decided that no brought coffees can be my famine and I will give the money I save to World Vision.

i forgot one major thing on my list that i don't need....spending money on book on TM! i always justify it like oh it was only $1 (yea plus the postage!) and my bookshelf is now overflowing...need to get down to the library more methinks.

My non-spends - takeaways, lunch on the way to work, V drinks and cookies on the way to school just coz I need change for Maya's lunch, random clothing spends on stuff the kids don't need coz I can't even close their drawers...

I'm keeping Maya's lunch spend tho, it's only $6 a week and I make her lunch every other day and she gets so excited about "Sushi day" that she'd be disappointed.

Friday is usually takeaway day coz Maya has gymnastics and doesn't finish till 5.30pm which means I get home too late to cook and it's easier just to get McD's on the way home. But tonight I've been really organised - while the three little ones were eating lunch I threw together a chicken parmagiana (frozen Tegel Takeouts schnitzels, mixed veg, pasta sauce, cheese sauce and grated cheese) and put it in the fridge so all I need to do tonight is bake it for 1/2 hour and cook a few chips. OK uhmmmm.... I want to cut out takeaways completely, lunches when I go into town (I always pack a lunch for J and don't for me thinking I won't be hungry til I get home then I starve and buy something ), books, little bits and pieces that we def use but don't NEED IYKWIM, material (My sewing room is a shocker!!!! I have like 7 banana boxes full and need to actually start making things more often!)... I can't really think of anything else though.

Groceries (obviously)
Transport
Doctors (Callum's due for some more jabs later this month )
One dinner out per week (it's practically the law in Singapore )
And lunches - DH refuses to take a packed lunch partly because it's actually cheaper to eat out here than take a sandwich (truly) and mostly because it's a good excuse for him to actually get away from his desk each day. So I get the same budget for lunch as well $35/week = one pretty nice lunch out for me and C!

Trying to cut down on -
Coffees/cake out
Impulse buys in baby shops!
Books/magazines/scrapbooking materials (I REALLY should join the library!)
Taxis when I could take the train
Lunching more than once a week

Ok I need to cut back on buying lunches, buying DVDs that I never watch, photoframes, other "house stuff" when we seriously dont need ANYTHING, new pills that "apparently" make you feel better, charms for my pandora, takeaways, crap at the supermarket that we never end up eating, pedicures, face cream like its going out of fashion, V on my way to netball - I mean really how stupid is that, lunches, powerade, CLOTHES! Pjamas oh and more CLOTHES! Thats about all really not much

So Ive got a HUGE month ahead of me.

I just brought my lunch then too because I didnt bring anything this morning - thinking it was the 1st tomorrow.

So Day1 Booboo - Spent $12 on crap.

so...may the first ay....well this month is going to be veeery interesting....

haha booboo good on you for owning up! shame i didnt realise yesterday was the last day or i would have gone and stocked up on things...dammit i probably shouldnt be saying that either

ok so my necessary spending is groceries (which are gonna be very basic and no treats (hopefully), my car, my kitty....oh and maybe a celebratory meal if DP finally proposes...ooh and mothers day but i am going to try and make something instead of buying this year...hmm let me see..no birthdays this month...ok i think thats it.

my unnecessary things i don't want to buy are takeaways, spending extra at the grocery store for "nibbles" and buying dvds etc at the warehouse. honestly that shop is so annoying the amount of money it seems to get from us lol

WRX I got a huge shock when I saw the price of that breadmaker I was thinking $30 LOL it was the only one on trademe though so I linked to it.
*sigh* I have enough naps for Jake now thats hes almost 2. I've got to stitch up some fitteds for him to go under his covers at night (prefolds aren't absorbent enough!!!) but thats not the same as shopping
I brought a big whiteboard at warehouse sationary for $20 the day before yday though and I've written out our menu plan and grocery list and everything so its right in front of me. We're almost a year behind on our rates LOL we've owned our house for less than a year so obviously haven't paid anything yet coz too disorganised we're gonna stick with this for 2 months and plan on being debt-free except for mortgage and qcard by then. I don't think I could do this as I don't think I spend un neccesarily and since its not may yet I don't feel bad about going shopping for my engagement ring (sorry its all I'm talking about at the mo cos I'm excited lol).

DP is ten times worse then I am. He will just suggest we go out for lunch rather then trying to fend for himself as I've normally been up for awhile by the time he gets up and is hungry I've eaten breakfast and am about an hour off lunch. Hmmm don't take him food shopping much anymore we always end up with stuff we don't need. I must admit that things like packs of chips are a neccesity for me at the moment as I need to snack during the day and theres just so much fruit you can eat.

Don't need to worry about coffee as DP works in a restaurant so drinks all the coffee he wants and brings home soft drink for me on the odd occasion that I want one YAY for nt spending lol

WTG Babe! Good decluttering! I haven't done anything else significant since my room, but my nanny commented on how tidy the house is, and my TM auctions are ticking along nicely.

Booboo - that's a good idea! I'll start a list and then whoever wants to can copy and paste and add their name. Then come May 1 we can add in any non essential spending we do. Or we could do it the other way and put in the things we *didn't* buy so we can see how much we're saving? Like "today I saved $3.30 coz I didn't stop at the dairy for a V on the way to work" etc.

OMG I definitely will not be able to let DH do the shopping this month. The amount of non-essential things he just came home with is shocking.

In our freezer we currently have choc chip icecream (not just any brand - Movenpick) and there's a 4 pack of frank's ruby red grapefruit juice in the fridge (apparently it was on sale so it's ok??) and that's just a couple of the highlights.

The worst thing is I can't even grump at him since he says he got them for me since I feel so sick.

i'm glad its not may yet! had kfc the night before last and bought a dvd last night aaaah but we did watch money man...and i was shocked at the cost of what they were spending! i hate to think what he would say to us...not that we are anywhere near as bad as what those two were like!! And tomorrow I will do DD's.

I love baking, and especially eating baked goodies hehe.. but I don't have an oven
Every month though I pop over to my mum's and spend a day baking muffins, scones etc and freeze them for DH's lunches.

DH told me today he was thinking of getting tints on my car.. now I have to talk him out of it, as I think its unnecessary spending! Im keen, have just cut down our budget and we do have $25 of misc money each week, have cut down on how much we will spend on groceries and am paying extra on my power and phone in preparation for baby. I'm doing well with my clean out - got rid of 5 nappies last night and the two cot mattresses today - well, they're all still here but I have buyers for them all, and possibly for the rest of the nappies

I did spend $146 at KMart this morning, but I feel justified seeing as it is my reward for decluttering our bedroom, plus I got some great deals - a 400-thread count Egyptian cotton sheet set for $45 and a cool cream and gold duvet cover for $31 plus a valance and two throw pillows 30% off.
