I did the maths for us and it works out cheaper for us to use cows milk rather than formula.

I remembered reading a post somewhere by kebakat so when I was thinking of switching we did the sums and for us personally it was cheaper on cows milk but def think it depends on what formula and how much milk etc they drink so well worth doing the calculations.

Am not entirely sure which is better though. I was always going to keep DS on formula as liked the notion that he was getting all the extras that formula has but he has such a healthy appetite that I didn't think it was an issue. if I had a fussy child I would def stay on formula longer.

We've done the maths on cow's milk vs formula (and we have to get the $24 HA formula) and it turns out cheaper to have Dom on formula than cow's milk with the current price of dairy. But then Dom can't have a lot of cow's milk because he has the cow's milk protein intolerence.

Oh...and you should never use warm water from the tap that comes from your water heater which you should never drink from because of legioner's (sp?) disease and all the other health risks. I have to use boiled water from the jug as we live rural and are on bore water, so we use cold boiled water and heat in it the microwave for 1 min on medium, then add the powder and then shake it for ages to get rid of the lumps. I find it quicker cos with formula I'd have to wait for the tap to get hot, put water in, make sure it's the right temp, make sure it's exactly 200mls, get out the formula, add 4 leveled scoops of formula, and shake for ages and it always had little lumps.

This may be really blonde but I don't get how pouring and heating is more convenient than taking warm water out of a tap and giving it a shake. We went straight from BM to cow's milk at 12 months old.
We had a sample sachet of formula which we tried her with, but she wouldn't have a bar of it.
So cow's milk it is
600mls a day (give or take, depending on her appetite). So we go through 4-4.5L a week, costing about $6 a week.

Based on that, we worked out it would cost us about $17/week on formula.

When Caden is one, we are changing him to cows milk. Formula is so expensive! And like liz said, it will be nice to be able to just pour and heat, I'm sick of having to shake the crap out of cadens bottles to get the formula to dissolve

We buy the 3L bottles, and use light blue, but will use dark blue for Caden.

Harry's on cows milk and we find it heaps easier and cheaper than formula (well isn't HEAPS cheaper but is a bit, and I love just being able to pour and heat).

We buy the 3L bottles - a dark blue one for Harrison and light blue for us. They never go off - he has 2 ish bottles a day and milk on his weetbix.

Although I have to say that Harry didn't like the taste of cows milk at first - I just did the whole mixing with formula thing, and within a couple of weeks he was on only cows milk... so if Jackson doesn't like the taste of cows milk now it doesn't mean he can't be encouraged to like it if that's what you decide to do.

We use about 5L a week and that's without the girls having it in their bottles

We're still using formula here. We only moved Aoife onto Dairy formula a few weeks ago and Eimear is still intolerant to all dairy.

Cows milk is pretty hard to digest, personally I prefer letting their tummies develop more before giving them cows milk.

Just try him with say 50mls and that way you can gauge whether or not he likes it. Cooper was fine with it and loves it now.

Issy is still on formula ... we dont drink full milk, although Ive just recently started buying a small bottle of "real milk" just so she can "have a go".

I think I just like the convenience of formula (and I know she will drink it lol).

She does drink the real milk .. but she has it in a sippy cup as opposed to a bottle. We found it more convenient and cheaper to stick to formula so we have. He just has cows milk on cereal and anything like that. Milk in our fridge always seems to go off before the expiry date which really annoys the hell out of me so it's nice just having formula and I'd rather not have to have a more sizeable stash of milk. Hi ladies

Jackson is one now and I've been thinking about moving onto Cows Milk, but I have heard formula is better for them. Im so confuzzled and I just dont know which way to go!
We dont have any family allergies to milk, so I dont have to worry about that,.

I assume if formula is better than cows milk then plunket would be recommending we stick with it?

Also, does it work out any cheaper/more expensive?
