Don't feel bad for one second!!! I'm amazed that toddlers survive most days because the things they get into and usually it's the most unusual of things that hurt them (experience from my nephew). She's all O.K. and that's the main thing.

Man, scary stuff, but you're not stupid. I think every mother goes through some shocking stuff eventually. Numerous times I've found Bella playing with the curtain cord and thought the exact same thing could happen and she's even tried to choke herself with the phone cord One time when I was out of the room, Bella pulled the fireguard down on her hand and broke her little finger. So, you can see, these things happen to anyone with an 'adventurous' baby/toddler! They certainly keep us on our toes!

There are so many things around the house that don't get classed as hazardous until a close-call like that.

I once left an empty nappy packet on Hannah's chest of drawers. She managed to reach through the bars and grab it after a nap one day.
I leave her for 5 mins or so when she wakes to give her a chance to wake up properly. That day I had two loads of washing to hang, so it was a good 10 minutes before I went in there.
She was fine, just crinkling it between her fingers, but I felt like such an idiot for leaving it in her reach!

Oh no! I can't imagine how scary that must have been for you!   And honestly we all go through moments where we feel like the worst mother on the planet! Sam half severed his big toe with an oil fin heater at 16 months old and let's just say at least twice now he's pulled the TV on top of himself and been squashed under it while I've been out of the room.   I swear babies and children are put on this earth to give us grey hairs and scare us witless!

Just went to go and do the dishes when I heard an awful cry coming from the girls bedroom where they were meant to be sleeping. See the end of Hazels bed is by the window and sometimes she stands up in bed and pulls the curtain back to look out the window. Its one of those curtains that you pull a cord and it raises up. Anyway I ran in there and found her being strangled by the cord she had somehow gotten it around her neck then she fell on her bottom but the cord wasn't long enough so she was hanging herself. I'm so freaked out I can't get hold of Jess and I can't stop crying. Shes o.k. now she was smiling and happy when I put her back to bed. Luckily I heard her in time. I gave her some pamol and shes now fast asleep but shes got an awful mark around her little neck. I feel like such an awful Mum this is the second time this year something like this has happened. Only a few months ago Esme almost choked on her baby bangle.
