I think swine flu serves as a good reminder that we should be a bit more careful with things like hand washing and spreading normal colds/flus etc.  SO thats all good.

flutterby, i hadn't thought about the climate thing thats a very good point. i just read today an article that taks to a scinetist in US who deals with viruses etc and they think this is all very much OTT based on the actual number of deaths etc. Apparntly the WHO lowered their alert levels late last year. Yes it is "serious" BUT bird flu was a pandemic - it killed 239 people. Each year the standard flu kills between 200-250 people. Swineflu has 388 (and counting) people in isolation here in NZ, but only 18 (and counting) of those actually have the virus. Most of the deaths from swineflu have occured in mexico, where due to the climate, the standard flu is a rare occurance.
