Well, at only 1 month, their vision is still a bit poor. They say that if by 3 months they are still a bit crosseyed, then you could have them have a look at it. In quite a few pics of Ishan where he's looking straight at the camera, one of his eyes is not exactly looking straight (a bit to the side...kinda like a lazy eye). It's amazing how kids cope with glasses.

Cooper has his eye's checked as he has a tear duct that still doesn't function properly, it hasn't improved at all so I'm expecting that when he gets to a year it will need to be opened up.

Yeah, Josh didn't open one of his eyes for 4 days after he was born. He has seen the specialist once and he said he will be looking at glasses for him at some stage this year. Andrew saw a specialist in 2005 and she wasn't overly concerned but things he has been doing over the past year have not been right so he will be probably getting glasses this year too.

Keep an eye on it, as I had that as a baby and had surgery for it and even now still have it happen. Both my boys have it and we are back to the specialist next month.

Cooper was definitely cross eyed as a wee bub, freaked me out too but they are fine now. Do you mean a squint? Because DH was born with a severe squint in one eye which was fixed through 2 operations and now you wouldn't know. His eyesight was never affected. what do you mean? Do you mean she looks like her eyes are looking outwards rather than inwards (as in how they would be crossyed?)

I really wouldnt be too worried at this stage either. As long as the midwife can get a clear red reflex (when you shine a light in the pupil, it glows back red (like the red eye on bad photos) and she doesnt have one eye that is ALWAYS turned.

James' eyes were all over the place and that was freaking me out (as an optometrist) but they are really good now and very straight whereas Tom's bugged me until he was nearly 1....and now are perfectly straight.

One thing to do is to look at the white dot reflection you see in the middle of the pupil when you hold a light infront of her. If that is in the same place in each eye, they are straight. Often eyes look not straight when they are....it can be an optical illusion due to the lack of a bridge on the nose etc. I find it easy to look at photos for that reflection.

When i say same place in each pupil I mean if it is slightly left of central on the right eye it should also be slightly left of central on the left...not mirror image.

Kaela (6wks) can definitely see us and her eyes fix and follow, but I'm concerned that for the most part, her eyes are not central. She's not cross-eyed; her pupils look slightly extra spaced IYGWIM. The GP told me not to worry unless it's still the case at 3mos but of course I'm a bit concerned, especially because I didn't see this with our other girls, except for on occasion. Kaela's norm seems to be this way.
