no , from what you've said , you did make the right choice . Easier , and better financially to have them out , as opposed to doing a root canal now ,then having them play up in a few months anyway and getting them taken out .

One of the teeth I had out was a root canal I had a few years ago that was leaking (Thursday this one came out) and it is hurting more than the other one. The other one he suggested doing a root canal on but after the other one not working I chose to have it out - plus the way the tooth was cracked almost right to the gum it probably wouldn't have worked (he admitted after trying to talk me into having it done) - it was going to cost me around $4000 to have that one done and the other one fixed up - maybe though it would have been worth it. back molars are bigger teeth ( ha obviously ) so they leave a bigger hole , which can take longer to heal

It can take up to a week for the pain to stop, if its excruciating however, I would give your dentist a call , just to make sure they got everything out .

You say you should have had root canal done, but in all honesty , root canals are only 80 % effective, and don't always work long term, most dentists will suggest a RT first, so the fact they took them out , suggests they knew there wasn't much they could do to help it .

When I got my back molars removed, one healed really fast (about 4 days) the other was sore for 2 weeks.. I had what is called a 'dry socket'

I found using Cepacol is really good. It is a topical anaesthetic mouthwash. Costs about 14$ from most chemists.

Also you can get some drops of Myrrh from a health place and use it as a mouthwash (a couple of drops mixed with water) I found that was better then saltwater.

The cepacol was a godsend though.

hmmm, i've had a lot of dental stuff done, but never back molars removed.

I have normally found pain dies down a lot after first day - I would ring the dentist and just ask if thats normal.

Hi,

Help!! I had a tooth removed on Wednesday and another on Thursday - both back Molars. How long does the pain last! I have stitches in until Thursday, I am taking two neurofen & two panadol almost every 4 hours on the dot (trying not to during the night), am doing 8 washes with salt and water. I can't stand the taste in my mouth.
