    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=18936">kiwikid</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 26460<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 14 May 2009 at 8:59pm<br /><br />Not sure how it works in NZ but a friend here in the UK discovered upon the birth of her first child that her and her husband combined had the genetic thingywotsits for a very serious medical condition that affected about 50% of their female children so when they decided they wanted another baby they had some tests done at 12weeks to find out the sex of the baby and if it was affected and while the baby was female it was clear of the genetic condition.<br /><br />So there are ways to find out on medical grounds the baby's sex and if they have a genetic condition within the timeframe that allows for termination to be considered.<br /><br />I dont think this test has any place with such serious considerations, its more of a gimmick for people who want to jump the queue so to speak and of course opens it up for people to abuse it for sex selection.]]>

And I certainly wouldn't terminate based&nbsp;on sex of the baby but I do think there are people out there that would.&nbsp;</P><P>As some others have said it should be available on prescription from a MW or Doc after 12 weeks.</P>]]>

But that is because I am not the type of person who would  ever terminate a pregnancy based on sex.<br /><br />I agree with Aprilfools, I think it should be available from 12 weeks so that would lessen the chance of a termination being granted.<br /><br />I don't really think the 'type' of person who is so 'meh' (for lack of a better word) about their pregnancy would bother paying that much to find out if the sex if they were essentially planning on terminating?  IMO?]]>

I found the comment from one woman interviewed that she felt more in control finding out the sex a bit odd. When we found out we felt even more bonded and excited (although somewhat concerned he wouldn't have a name coz we couldn't think of anything) unless she meant more organised I thought that is the attitude of someone who would use the test to 'pick'. <br /><br />I do however know someone who never wants to have kids nor do her sisters because she's carrying a genetic abnormality that only effects males. Would be good for them I guess although for me I would imagine it too heartbreaking.]]>
