i believe that they like clean hair so prehaps don't wah it as often. Thanks for the tips everyone.  DH is totally against using product in Ms hair but I'm afraid he'll just have to get used to in (on kindy days anyway).

As preventative measures, tea tree oil drops directly into your normal, every day shampoo. Don't shell out extra money buying shampoo with tea tree oil already in it. If you add it to the shampoo yourself, you're making it more concentrated so it works better. Just make sure it doesn't go into Michaela's eyes or it will sting! Blow dry her hair if she will let you, too. The heat can kill the living lice.

Every daycare day, put her hair up in a plait, then sprayed with hairspray. If she does end up getting them, it pays to read up on their life cycle and work at breaking that cycle. For example, only adult lice can lay eggs so if you kill them while they're still nymphs (7-10 days after hatching) but before they're adults, then that all helps to break the cycle because they haven't had a chance to lay more eggs.

Ashlee has had them and the only way we could get rid of the bugs and eggs was to comb, comb, comb about 3 times a week in the beginning! Unfortunately it seems they're a fact of life. There are a couple of products on the market that are meant to repel them but basically its just the tea tree oil in them so I'd just use the shampoo that you have.

I was just reading our kindy newsletter and apparently there's been a reported case of head lice at kindy.

I've just checked Michaela and I couldn't find any but what can I do to make sure she doesn't get infested?

I have a herbal shampoo with tea tree oil which I'll start using on her and she always has her hair tied up before kindy.  I'll also check her hair every kindy day.  Anything else?
