Persil for Sensitve Skin is great for the whole family - I useit now as got a bit itchy from the smelly perfumed ones...altho when Paige was a baby I just used whatever I was washing ours in. She never suffered.

Also on that sterlising business...in my opinion people these days tend to go a wee bit anal about being "clean" and disinfecting stuff. Kids need a few germs and bugs to build up their immune systems!

Cant be kept in a cotton bubble all their lives!

(I have only taken on this opinion in the last 2 years tho since Paige has been at school)

With the soaking stuff. I have a bucket of napisan that I just throw things into during the day - then at night I throw it all into the machine for a wash. I washed the new stuff but then I just put everything in the dryer unless its a really hot day. I like how they are softer out of the dryer plus cos they are so little you can fit heaps in. Jax I was the same when i read this i didn't wash any new clothes oops oh well Jack never got a rash or anyhting. We just chucked all the bubba clothes into the washing machine on the gentle wash, with a tiny bit of washing powder, on cold, we use cold power, just a normal washing powder. and then hung them out to dry in the sun. the dryer is fine also as long as it's not wooly, just be careful not to stick the stretchy cotton suttf in with fleecy stuf and vice vera cos otherwise you get fluff all over stuff. but we just washed them as normal, and for the first few weeks of Ayja's life we stuck her washing in separate loads, cos she went thru so damn much that we could make a load a day, or at least a half one. After that, we just chucked them in with our usual wash and she's been fine. We did try persil sensitive, but go figure, she reacted to it. I figure, if you start off the way you intend to continue you won't end up with a baby reacting to stuff when you introduce it later... some babies react to lots of stuff no matter what, others don't at all, but all babies get some sort of hormonal spots, scaly skin, red icky bits in the first few weeks somewhere on their body... rest assured 9 times out of 10, it isn't directly related to the washing powder or their clothes.

I feel bad because my first reaction to this thread was "What !? I have to wash them all first !?" I mean, I think I had it tucked in the deepest recesses of my memory that this was something you're supposed to do with baby clothes because of them being sensitive to all sorts of things... but then it was immediately superceded by my extreme hate of washing ! *sigh* And we don't have a dryer either, ugh. My step mum used LUX SOAP FLAKES- they are a washing powder flake but soft!!!
She said she'd get a small cup full and add a bit of water to that and mixed it up before putting it in the washing machine and the clothes, nappies etc came out really nice.
Don't over use the flakes though as you can get that really soapy feeling- like when you use alot of powder and softner.
No need for softner as it might cause the bub to react to it and alot of soap powders aren't as good as LUX or NAPPISAN...
So there ya go... I only soak the really feral ones. Like when she was a baby and she would 'explode' all over them. And now if she has been in the mucky play at preschool and they are a bit revolting.

I wouldnt do anything special with the baby clothes. Just wash them like normal before they wear them and dry however you normally dry. Does any use a dryer for their babies clothes or is it better to hang then on the line? I have been given a little washing line for babies clothes and told to put in up somewhere where there is alot of wind but not to much sunlight. Anybody now why? Yip I pre-washed all of Xandas clothes, new and hand me down, and still do prewash. I prewashed everything using Persil sensitive and still do prewash everything new. Mind you I do this for mine and Peters things too...just to get rsidual dyes and stuff out. yeah definitely wash baby clothes before putting them on baby, my mum advised me to wash them inside out to keep them looking nice and new. it pays to seperate colours with new stuff too. (my brother learned that one the hard way and his daughter was quite colouful looking for the first few months!)

I washed everything, we just use persil, I also use a fab softener and napisan. Washing is a great idea, as most clothes come from china and are all sprayed with pestcides etc on arrival into the country to kill any "travellers".

I have sensitive skin so we use Persil Sensitive anyways. I washed every thing before Zaara was born and I washed it with Napisan (I thought because it was milder.....he he ha h NOT) But thankfully she never had any reaction to it.

I wont put any thing on her untill its been washed. Amolin Senistive is good too. We use it for Maya. I will be washing all mine before bubs wears them. Yep, wash before putting them on babe and do it with only 1/2 the amount of powder you'd normally use or with a sensitive powder.

They get rashes rather easily... both from new clothes and from too much washing powder! Do you have to wash new baby clothes be4 they wear them?? What do you recommend washing them with. The clothes look so cute new. Im worried they will go all ratty looking. Any ideas??
