I got all excited when I saw the promo ads for the alcohol thing, I thought it was going to be about a supermarket refusing to sell alcohol to a pregnant woman (the woman from the couple was pregnant). Actually that's not quite correct - it's the liquor license holder on duty at the time. So it's actually worse in that a kid can sell the liquor and then the Duty Mgr who wasn't even in the vicinity is up for the 10k fine - see my comments above

ETA: It's even worse in that there is a possibility that the liquor license holder will end up with a conviction from the courts too.

I think its interesting how gullable people are when it comes to marketing and packaging.

The alcohol topic was completely lacking in many areas. Take it from someone who has experience- there are many more points to point out on this than FG did. More than I will go through.. (btw- I have preggy brain so the following may not make sense)

Eg- Did anyone know that the person who SELLS you the alcohol (checkout operator etc) can be done for $10k fine.... personally. On top of that the establishment gets more fines.
BUT- who wants to put a kid through that- or any person.
AND- They have a right to refuse you sale if they even 'suspect' you will give it to someone else... again the fine pops back in to play.... why risk it.

I think the main probs when it comes to these ID and counter sales situations is lack of understanding from both the sales person (in communicating why they need to ID you) and the purchaser, in terms of feeling ripped off or frustrated, and not understanding the whys.

At the end of the day- all you need to do is take your ID, or if you forget it- you go and get it. Its only alcohol... Dont take it out on the poor sales person- they are just doing what theyre told to do, and cant afford a $10k fine.

Huh? Who has the time or inclination to dissolve the laundry powder first??? I just chuck it in the machine and then leave (usually because I'm heading to work). Same with Napisan....

Yeah notice how the nappysan ads use a front loader machine? It's because you don't have to dissolve the powder in those but you do in top loaders. I only found this out after I bought the nappysan. I don't use powder these days a use liquid now but when i used powder i never botheres. I think thtas part of the indtructions on the box though. Yeah the new requirements suck but the restrictions are OTT because the supermarkets can't afford to lose their liquor licenses. They're like that because the law itself is bloody hard to enforce.

Like the one about taking liquor off someone because their mate was in the carpark. I thought it was daft until DH pointed out that the carpark is part of the supermarket property so even though the liquor has been purchased if the minor was given it in the carpark the supermarket is done for supplying the minor and not the person who purchased it.

Years ago my DH was meant to get his liquor license renewed so he could be duty manager and he refused because there was absolutely no safeguard against him personally being fined $10K if a 16yo checkout person sold liquor to a minor on his shift. The supermarket would not guarantee that they would pay his fine in that situation. That will be why now days every single liquor purchase at Progressive has to be authorised by the checkout controller.

Oh and, that buying alcohol thing is a bit OTT in some situations I reckon. I can see what they're trying to achieve but...

What happens if you do the groceries with your, say, 16 year old child?? That completely annoyed me last night! They advertise it all week making out that they are going to give you some ground breaking info on the new washing powders and they told you nothing. What a waste of time. They didn't really seem to have any major conclusions . Consumer are doing a study into the effectiveness/cleaning power of the powders which will be out in June.

Otherwise, what the others said. Definitely only use the amount of powder the box says to.

I would've been more interested if they'd compared some of the traditional powders such as Surf etc with Ecostore. I watched it too the only tips they gave were to make sure what you buy . If you used to buy a 1kg box you should now buy the 500gm box as you should get the same amount of washes out of it. Its a change of habits thing.

Bobbie I have to agree with your DH and mine thought the same. Whether people were that stupid that they put 2 scoops in the wash when it clearly states on the box to only use 1.

I will be interested to see the results of the consumer test, as to whether the smaller concentrate box does give as good a wash as the larger ones. I suspect they've only removed the fillers that were in the old formula. DH (who used to work in supermarkets) thought people who put in more than one scoop 'were idiots' when it was written clearly on the box and the marketing chick who was comparing a 900gm box of scented type powder with the 1kg box of normal powder (so two different varieties) was 'an idiot'
