Jack was in flats as a newborn and we never used pins or a snappi. The cover always kept the nappy on and since newborns don't move much the nappy doesn't come undone.

I love woollen soakers. Another good part of them is that the lanolin neutralises the wees so you dont have to wash them after each use. Just leave them in the hot water cupboard and they are ready for use the next night. You lanolise the wool so it's essentially waterproof. Wool soaks up something crazy like 30 times its own weight before it feels wet (don't quote me on that number though!). I'm loving looking on trademe too. This may be a very naive question but I've always wondered about those wool soakers (which I think look pretty cute). If there is no waterproof layer how do they stay dry? Snappis do work just as well as pins on the terry towelling flats but don't grip the red stripe flannellette type flats at all.

It doesn't have the pinless fold, but I found this site useful. We occasionally used flats when JJ was much smaller, and I was a fan of the angel fold (snappied under a cover). Once I discovered the origami fold that became my favourite though.

Try searching YouTube for nappy folds too?

I'm a MASSIVE fan of wool covers btw - eg DesignerBums (although she hasn't reopened yet after popping out her little girl) or Staccinator
(there are a couple cheap on TradeMe at the mo), or there are lots of lovely soaker patterns out there if you know anyone who knits

i used a diff fold in the end but just tucked it in by the legs. because he wasnt moving it stayed put...

Pins are a pain in the arse! Get a cover holds the nappy in place with out having to pin. We're using old-fashioned flats as well, but we're using them inside a PUL cover, and not using any pins or a snappy. They just do up with the domes on the cover.

yeah snappies wont work on flats. they are great for prefolds tho.

So we're going with old fashioned flats and covers (at least to start with). I love the idea of snappis. They look so easy! But do they actually hold the nappy in place as well as pins?? DH is quite worried about pricking the baby using pins. Are snappis just as effective??
