As long as I don't do too much I can eat pretty well and am only throwing up every so often. I definitely won't ever wait again - I'll just ask for that straight away. I just wish I'd had a midwife who was prepared to tell me about the options when I was pregnant with Ollie!

Coz it was later in my pregnancy and the hormones weren't changing quite as rapidly it helped alot.

I was just thinking our hospital has an outpatient facility where your LMC can refer you to get a bag of fluids in your arm. You sit there for an hour or so and they just top your system up. Its the option in between being ok and being so bad you need to be admitted IYKWIM? My ketones never showed how dehydrated I was so thats why it took so long for them to admit me but I'll be trying this option if I get sick again this time round!!! Thought I'd suggest it

I'm not sure whether to keep going back to the GP until we find something that works (at $40 a visit) or just to accept that maybe I just have to eat what I can and hope that I keep enough down. The dietitians at work have been great and suggested things like Complan after I throw up so that I'm replacing food with something vaguelly decent.

What do you think? Should I try the GP? We haven't tried Zofran or Domperidone yet so maybe one more go!

My suggestion is if your dr does't listen to you then keep pushing until you find one who does. I saw a dr at 13 /15 weeks and really felt like she was fobbing me off. I got a lot of you'll start feeling better soon at x weeks, theres a difference between throwing up and trying to throw up (yeah lady the only reason I ain't throwing up is cos there's nothing left to bring up). In the end she reluctantly prescibed the meds I asked for as suggested by MMH (they suggested I stay clear of the maxalon and try domperidone) - but only gave me 10 days supply. I was lucky that I stopped throwing up at 19 weeks, which was the same stage that I did with DS1.

I tried anything and everything I could, and if something worked then stuck at it for as long as it worked.

I felt like socking people when they offered advice, I know they were only trying to help but it was just like "you have nooooo idea!" With Chiara I was so sick that when I had a bleed at 8 weeks I prayed that I would miscarry so I would stop feeling so awful . What a horrible thing to think about my own precious bub, but hyperemesis is so all-consuming and debilitating.

The worst part for me is that I also get ptyelism (excessive saliva), I was going thru a box of tissues a day from spitting the excess saliva out coz if I swallowed it, it made me vomit. It made my lips dry and cracked at my mouth dry so I was constantly taking small sips of water and putting vaseline on my lips, and I was really self conscious about it so I wouldn't go anywhere with people I didn't know or feel comfortable with.

Oh and 20+ months of vomiting every day plus the ptyelism has stripped all the enamel from my teeth so they are all shot to pieces.

I am soooo jealous of people who just sail thru their pregnancies!

I have another GP appointment tomorrow and I've asked about the referral criteria for a specialist. I think I've lost weight (although I rarely weigh myself) - my smallest jeans are now too big. And the only reason I've kept throwing up to a minimum today is because I did absolutely nothing at work today.

I totally agree Tweedle - this is easily the hardest thing I've ever been through even though I know there is an end point.

It's so nice knowing there are other people out there who know what it's like too. That's almost the hardest thing - the lovely people who keep telling me to eat crackers in bed even when I've explained that I'm a bit beyond that point!!!

And thanks Sheena - I couldn't let you be the only June mummy to be having their second!! It'll be a hige milestone to have reached one!

I have gone through this three times with this pregnancy (3rd) being the worst I have hospital admissions with all three pregnancies and this one every week from week 6 to 15. I have lost a total of 12 kilos with some slowly going back on now things are improving.

Hyperemesis is truly evil and I sympathise with anyone going through it - I have to say it is the toughest thing I have had to go through in my life so far.

I still vomit in the mornings but at least I can now get out of bed and dressed for the day so things to get a *little* easier as the weeks go by. I never found anything to really help - I was on a mix of drugs with zofran being the main one then mixed with maxolon and cyclizine. They didn't work 100% of the time as I found as my hormones kept increasing in the early weeks the drugs would loose their effectivness.

Hang in there...........I KNOW it seems that you can't do it and you want it to stop but it will get more manageable (even though that is so hard to believe early on).

Rest up as much as you can

I had pretty bad morning sickness with Ollie but this seems worse. I'm throwing up every meal and quite often anything I eat or drink in between.

I think you are amazing for doing this three times. I would love to have three children but this will be it for me - I can't handle being this sick!

I think I'll ring the GP again tomorrow and talk to him about Zofran - and mixing meds. So far I've tried each on their own but everyone else I've spoken to has had a mixture of things in order for it to work. I guess he'll refer me on if needs be - I just hope I don't have to wait too long if that's the case.

Thanks for the other ideas too. Lemonade iceblocks sound divine right now!

If I didn't throw up first thing, I would pretty much vomit everything I ate.

Other than that, just rest as much as you can (not easy with a baby as well!) I found I was much more nauseous when I was tired and when I was asleep was the only time of the day that I didn't feel crap.

I hope this helps, I really feel for you coz hyperemesis is evil. Did you have it with Ollie? I can't remember.

I'm 9 weeks and am really struggling with hyperemesis. My poor old DH is doing the best he can but I'm not doing a good job of being wife, mother or employee at the moment. My GP has a list of drugs to try but so far nothing has made a difference (I've tried Maxalon, Buccastem and Cyc.lizine) Sometimes a new one will work for 24 hours and then seems to stop. I'm not dehydrated enough yet to warrant a hospital admission although some days have been borderline.

So...has anyone had success with any of the medication they've been offered? And if so, what was it?

And, were there any other tricks that got you through.

I know this is only for another 7 months or so but I'm finding it really hard to cope (and so is my DH!!) so any advice would be great.
