my daughter had cradle cap for over couple of months and everyone advised to leave it alone as it may disappear by itself.... but i was a little worried as with every wash her hair would break as well. Jacks never really went away and I tried most things. My friend saw the baby whisperer on Good Morning and she suggested rubbing babies head quite firmly with a flannel in circle movements. This seems to be working for DS.

I've also seen in the Baby Factory craddle cap kits, looks like a rough mit type thing and a rubber looking comb. Caden had it quite bad for a while and I used a oily cream that they gave me at middlemore for his dry skin. I put it on after his bath and kept re-applying it every few hours, and that made it a lot softer and I gently scraped it off with my finger nail.

It doesnt hurt them though, so you can always apply the cream and and just leave it to fall off its self.

ETA-It drove me mad as well, and I couldnt help picking at it(only the loose bits)while he was feeding lol

I just massage baby oil into his scalp and it comes out the next time i wash his hair.

You could try using the ecostore nappy balm, i have heard this can help.

I've heard that papaya ointment (from the chemist) does wonders. Having said that, I didn't bother with it too much 'cause Ollie has had enough hair to hide his. A wee while ago we started using his comb on his scalp while he was in the bath. We put baby oil on for an hour or so before and then combed what we could out. Kate had really bad craddle cap at about 2months, I tried the oils etc and it made it worse, I ended up going to the chemist and buying some special shampoo that has tea tree oil in it. Cradle cap seems to not go away until it really wants to - often, in my experience, at about 1yr. I just try to not let it bother me in the meantime.

Ava had severe cradle cap and I tried everything including oil. My daughter has quite bad cradle cap,

She does have long hair to hide it however

I just put Olive oil on her head, left it in for about 4 hrs. Gave her a bath and washed it out.

This morning i brushed her hair and heaps has come off.

I will need to wash her hair again in bath tonight as its still greasy

Like PP have said it doesnt hurt them so doesnt really matter, dd has had her since 2 wks old so i finally triend something. My little boy had cradle cap and it took many months before it was gone. Every week I woudl put babyoil on his head and put him to bed with a hat on to keep the oil there for hours then gently brush it off. It woudl gradually slowly disappear but very very slowly. My plunket nurse told me to put olive oil on and leave it for a couple of hours and use a credit card to scrape it off.

I never did this as I just picked most of it while she was feeding.... I couldn't help it.

Eva still went bald on top though

My boy seems to have a stubborn case of cradle cap - I've tried oiling his head with apricot oil, massaging it in, then gently brushing or combing it before washing it off when giving him his bath. But this only seems to get rid of the bits already flaking off. The scaly bits adhering strongly to his scalp are still there afterwards, and stay until they eventually start flaking away.
