Also she said which isn't on there, if the baby is crying, give her to dad as he is more likely to be able to calm her better as he will be less stressed, and babies pick up on stress. If that makes sense

If you get there early enought you should be able to get a bassinet, I just figured tht I would kick up a fuss if I didn't get it.
We flew a couple of weeks ago with our 6mo and the long haul flight was grea.
You can take a stroller to the gate, and sometimes they will let you even put it in the overhead lockers.
In saying that, I found a sling really useful in getting through security and getting to the gate on time.
I left a bib on James just so if we had an accident I only had to change the bib.
It is quite light in the cabin(especially if the person behind you has their light on) so you will want to tie something over the bassinet, we just used an airplane blanket.

As Chickoin said book a seat with a bassinet. When booking your tickets make sure your travel agent states that you require these seats and ask the airline to make a "do not move!" note on your seat booking. Try and book the seats with a bassenette. Like Hannibal said, sucking going up and coming down works wonders for the ears.
When we came to Aussie (only an 8 hour flight), we took a big soft blanket to snuggle Jody in when she got a bit titchy and she went to sleep happily. Hi, probably making sure bubs is sucking going up and down. Have a look at thesleepstore.co.nz it has some tips on travelling with babies (I used this site when I had bubs - great sleeping tips too).
