I was going to try Cody on formula tonight for the first time but he didn't really take to it at all. I think he was more tired then hungry so maybe had a few drops then fell asleep. I heat Jayes water in the microwave. Its quick and avoids too many tears. We give Chelsea a bottle of formula most nights. To heat it up, we just pour hot tap water into a bowl/pot etc and put the bottle in the water. Only takes about a minute to warm it up. A lot of bottles are BPA free now which is great!

We have preboiled water in the bottle at 120ml, and leave it at rm temp, then add boiling water from kettle to 150ml. seems to be the best way for us.

I dont want Locky used to hot milk- Id rather he was used to warm so its not a biggie if it cools, or Im out and its hard to heat right up. As long as its not cold.

If you heat up the bottle in the microwave it causes potentially harmful chemicals (Bisphenol A - BPA) that are in the plastic to leach out into the baby's milk.

Even though the government and the chemical industry assure us that the levels of BPA found in humans are very low and that the product is safe, many medical experts, scientists, and environmental experts disagree and believe that the evidence is now strong enough that parents should consider steps to reduce infants' exposure to BPA when possible.

In fact, dozens of state and national environmental health organizations in the United States and Canada have called for a moratorium on the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in baby bottles and other food and beverage containers.

The plastic bottle to avoid is number 7, made from polycarbonate plastic.

Sorry, don't have time to read the replies, so I might be repeating what others say.

I started heating Jackson's bottle in the microwave after we stayed in hospital and I saw that it was the routine way that all the nurses warmed the bottles. I figure if the hospital does it, it's probably ok.

I always swirl it really well and let it stand for a bit after heating. You get to know exactly how long the bottle needs to be perfect for your bubs. For me, 35 seconds heats 260ml milk just right.

I checked the Food Safety authority website last night re chemicals and baby bottles and apparently there is no evidence to suggest that microwaving does anything to the plastic. They suggest that you don't put boiling water into bottles but otherwise say it's safe.

Um...we've always heated Ollie's bottles in the microwave. We did try an Avent bottle warmer for a while (my sister loved hers) but we hated it so went back to the microwave. We just know how many seconds it takes to get it to the right temp and then add formula and give it a really good shake. I would just be careful when using the microwave as some types of plastic can leech out chemicals...even some baby bottles. We have boiled water sitting in the bottles and microwave for about 30 secs, then add formula and shake...never had a problem with either child getting burnt, and both mine like their bottles on the warmer side. Just do tests with your microwave to see how long it takes to get the right temp and always use that and you will be fine.

We had one of those kettles that you can adjust the temperature on and it was just a matter of playing around until we found the right temperature and then reheating the pre-boiled water. Haven't done this with my own kids but have with godkids from an early age.

We have boiled the kettle then used that water sometimes as the water was still warm enough we wouldn't even have to boil the kettle as when its freshly boiled you have to wait for it to cool anyways.

We have also microwaved bottles formula and all and its been fine, you shake it and it distributes the heat evenly and always test first anyways. depending how much is in the bottle depends on the length of time but 10-15secs most of the time.

We've used the microwave from day one. We get the botttles ready with water and store in the fridge. We then put the formula in and then put it in the microwave. I have always used the microwave, for the first few weeks we did the 'stand bottle in hot water, wait forever for it to heat up" thing lol, but I got so sick of that, while Caden screamed the house down wanting his bottle! lol

So, we used cooled boiled water(kept a jug in the fridge) and then, we would(and still do) nuke the water until it was the right temp, then put the powder in and tested it.
You get to know how long you need to heat for in your microwave, ours is 90 seconds on medium heat for the right temp, Caden always loved his bottles on teh hotter side lol

I always use the microwave, didn't know it was bad but it hasn't done anything to Arianne so far and I haven't once burnt her. we have cold boiled water in the fridge, and we just heat the bottle for 20secs in the microwave, then add the formula...always ends up at room temp with no hotspots...oh and because im breastfeeding as well, the bottle tends to be made up about 5mins before i actually need it, so its had time to cool

It can be tempting to do it, I tend to stay away from that.   What we did was figure out exactly how how it needed to be, have a container of pre-boiled water in the fridge that is nice and icy cold, and then boil the jug (takes about 2 mins) and we knew how much of each to add to the bottle to get it to the right temp, so half hot half cold, was super quick and meant there were no hot spots. we then just added the formula to it.

Every baby book I read says not to microwave formula as it can heat unevenly and burn baby's mouth. Most of my friends with older babies still do it and Im very tempted as its so quick and easy!

At the moment we have an Avent IQ bottle warmer to warm the water then we add in the formula but Im not impressed with the bottle warmer as its so slow and doesn't warm enough.

So today I've been microwaving Daniel's water in the bottle for about 20 seconds for 150 mls then adding the formula in and shaking it up. Surely the shaking will undo any uneven heating???
