agreed..! if its solid fabric can be nice to match nursery etc etc..

I was never fussed about a hood but the one we borrowed had one and I've gotta say after using it, it was handy. I would say the cover is mainly for look but may keep breezes off too. I wouldn't get a plastic cover for the mattress, you can get pure wool dry liners for cots and basinets which are safer for babies.

I have just been given a bassinet to use from a friend.. Its in good clean condition and It is a great size but has no fabric cover around the sides or fabric covering the hood on it.. Is this something i should bother about buying.. whats the advantage or dis-advantage of a cover and hood ??? Warmth, SIDS, prettyness etc...

I have purchased a brand new matress and also wondered if i need the plastic matress cover as well ??
