Author: nztui
Subject: 27107
Posted: 25 June 2009 at 1:14pm

Seems there are a lot of 45min nappers out there! Mine started doing this about 8weeks for most naps but would do a 1 1/2hr nap randomly maybe once a week, arrrrggghhhh. I tried getting to resettle and most of the time it didn't work but also I got so sick of it that I prob didn't try after awhile. Things ARE getting better now though, we are now getting a 1 1/2hr sleep maybe each day or every other day which I just love

Most of the time she woke up wide awake after 45mins, often happy (sometimes not) so it was fighting a losing battle to get her back to sleep (imo). What's interesting now is that sometimes when she sleeps for longer I do hear her wake at 45mins and my heart sinks but then as she is sounding quietly happy I leave her and she goes back to sleep (just did it now, yipppeeee!).

I wish she would sleep longer each time but I can't see how I can force her to sleep so just have to go with it for now. It does make for long days though. What I've been doing that helps me is to make sure she gets a feed early before 7:30am so I can treat that as a night feed and it means she gets more day sleep than she otherwise would (and mummy can have a rest). This way my mornings go ok.
I've also been trying to keep her room as dark as poss during the day sleeps - not sure if this makes a difference but figure it must, I think a lot of the longer sleeps co-incide with when its cloudy and darker outside.....am going to try spotlight this weekend for blackout material.

Sorry for novel

Never sleeps longer. Tried evrything, he even wakes up after 45 mins in the car.

So I've learned to live with it. To be honest, it's only inconvenient for me! He is a very happy little boy who only has 2x 45 min naps a day and sleeps 2x 6hour spells at night.

If your bub is happy, just go with it.

I found I had to try and ignore his grizzling and only go in if he was really crying. Then sometimes he'd resettle himself and sleep for another cycle.
Last few days he's had massive morning sleeps of about 2 1/2 hours! So hoping he'll stay on track now!

What I found helped, was after the 45 min when I heard her wake up, I turned on the white noise in her room and 75% of the time she went back to sleep for at least another hr (sometimes 2) . Eventually she learnt to go back to sleep on her own.

Randomly some weeks he'll suddenly sleep for 1.5 hours but the norm here is 3 naps of about 30 -40 mins each.

Sometimes he wakes crying, sometimes he wakes happy, I have just learnt to go with it.

If they are sleeping well at night I wouldn't worry, But I know how frustrating it can be!!!!
