Author: Babe
Subject: 27251
Posted: 01 July 2009 at 8:35pm

Hi thought you might've posted something Kel I watched that article and thought it was great!!

I'm 'ADHD' but back when I was little it was considered a made-up problem to excuse bad behaviour. My grandma was working for the government and came across the first lot of diet stuff they were looking into. My parents immediately began the elimination diet. Not only am I allergic to colours and some preservatives, I'm allergic to chocolate I couldn't eat granny smith apples, chicken flavoured chippies (salt and vinegar and small amounts of sour cream and chives were the only ok chips though back then they were the only 3 flavours ), margarine (again back then there were very few choices),uhm I couldn't drink any fizzy drinks until 7up was brought out and the list goes on. As a child even sprite would nut me out.

'ADHD' (use to just be hyperactivity) is most often a diet issue Lisa so your nephew most likely does have it. With all the so-called advances they prefer to put kids on drugs instead of enforcing a diet (obviously without a parents 100% commitment that wouldn't work anyway).

Amber I really think you should do what Kel suggested and look at the additive numbers. Bay may well be reacting to something you're unaware of! Try the elimination diet - like Alia and I, he may be reacting to a fruit or something perfectly natural.

Kel was it that program that mentioned a tie between ADHD, Autism and the food aditives?? Something I've watched recently caught my interest specially since I have Aspergers too. I firmly believe that because my parents got onto my diet so fast and were so careful for me my Aspergers hasn't had a chance to develop to the point it affected my live like many kids out there! Might be something to consider as well AMber?? Bays other symptoms may show improvement. Wouldn't that be a blessing?!

Lizzle as a person who has spent my entire life having to watch my diet and having to deal with the really tough consequences of eating things I react to I can assure you that the scientists have their heads up their butts My life has been an experiment! Sorry I get pretty frustrated ae especially since my life would've been awful if I'd had to live in a perpetual state of hyper. My brain moves at a million miles an hour but I can't keep up with it, my emotions swing like a pendulum on crack, my body hurts, things come out of my mouth and I have no idea why, I have the worst possible reactions to every situation and I'm so unhappy!!

It can take up to 72 hours for a full reaction to show if you're on the correct diet and up to approx 10 days for things to settle back to normal.

Prepared to be surprised.

As a thing we use daily on toast & Sandwiches the only additive & preservative free ones are pure butter or Meadowlea Butterlea. Everything else has either 202 or 160b plus others.

Alia reacts badly to all citrus & berries. Like Lisa said above with some reactions, but Alia gets spaced out. Like there is no one home. She's an intelligent little girl but some times I want to slap her & engage her brain. Obviously I don't but I used to get angry whereas now I know that there is no point & I just quietly leave her alone. I'm lucky that she hypes out & calms down in a short period of time, some other children it takes longer to build up a reaction & also to get back to normal.

My sister makes a note of different brands when they try them and what reaction he has and the one with no reaction is the one they will use, even the smallest amount sets him off and he becomes a different kids...very hyper and rough with the smaller kids and wont listen, when he gets like this you have to get really close to him and make him look you in the eye so you know he is listening to try and get through to him. A dr said he may have adhd but my sister didn't think so seeing as these problems were really after he had eaten thats why they decided to change the whole family onto a more natural diet to see what would happen and its worked for them. It is very hard work though but easier as they all are eating the same. They have also found that they are having less headaches and health problems themselves (the adults).

http://nac.allergyforum.com/additives/
