I was worried about it (sleep associations and also being in the capsule too long) but the nurses at our Well Baby clinic made me feel better by pointing out that he would never be in the capsule longer than about 1.5 - 2hr as he was feeding 3 hrly and taking 45mins+ to feed! As for sleep associations, well he was too young to worry about it really but they also suggested just doing what we had to do to get through the reflux. Thankfully it DOESN'T last forever, it just feels like it

Sorry for the novel

    Author: Moochiecat
Subject: 27253
Posted: 03 July 2009 at 9:11am

Hi - ugh reflux breaks your heart. Our DD is 12 weeks and developed reflucx by 3 weeks old. My advice go to your Doctor and get Losec, dont bother with anything else. Also ask for it in a suspension fluid, you just syringe it into their mouths, instead of having to crush tablets and get them in there.

Also try sticking a rolled up towel under the head end of your babies bed, and try to feed as upright as possible. We are on Nurture Plus thickened formula also. And don't switch teat sizes to quickly either, make sure your baby is ready to switch up, try a bigger teat once a day after the recommended age has been reached, once they are big enough they will adjust ot the teat ok, but forcing it makes the reflux worse.

Good luck and I hope all goes well, oh and best of all - reflux usually goes after about 15 weeks. so just hang on until then.

I had tried gaviscon before this but had no joy with it and it was so hard to administer especially when BF that I did not continue using it, plus the losec worked so well we did not need it. I tried a couple of time to stop the meds with disasterous results but when I tried again at 4 months we had no problems and have not used them since. There a lots of other things that help to, a dummy is a life saver for reflux babies, raising the end of the cot or bassinet (DD's is still raised) keeping them upright for as long as poss after feeds and not feeding too often if possible.

There is a really good website you may have already seen but here is the link in case you haven't Reflux Website

Hope it all comes right sometime soon, and the screaming does not do your head in. I had bad reflux in pregnancy and it was hideous so always thought of this when DD was screaming, poor wee babies.
