The landlord left a plastic sand pit that I've been filling and emptying for a couple of days but he doesnt seem that keen to actually sit in it and mostly just kneels outside and plays in the water so I'll dig out the baby bath and use that instead - he can always climb in if he wants but it will much less water!

I've been told to do a few back to back hot wash cycles with half a cup of white vinegar to strip the nappies as that might be causing the wee smell so will do that tomorrow.

I've been leaving several sippy cups / straw drink bottles around the house in set places and he seems to be twigging on that there is always a drink close by so that seems to be working for the water consumption.

32 degrees today PHEW its HOT, we spent the hottest part of the day in the supermarket where it was nice and cool lol

If you still have your baby bath, then just fill that and put some toys and plastic containers in, he'll have a ball!

    Author: kiwisj
Subject: 27265
Posted: 01 July 2009 at 1:12am

I'm in Singapore so it's summer all year round here

We're somewhat acclimatised after 2 years but I put C in a sleeveless or short sleeved bodysuit inside a 1 tog sleeping bag. If it's way hotter than usual I'd probably even skip the onsie and just put him in a nappy inside the bag, no other bedding.

Callum is only 6mo so no iceblocks here But he is really into sucking on icecubes in muslin at the moment for his teeth but they are a decent size and he has a couple a day - just a bit extra fluid, it all helps! If iceblock moulds are cheap there's no harm in trying them, you will use them next summer for sure. You can make ice blocks with pureed fruit and 100% juice, they're pretty popular with older kids I know!

No cloth nappies here sorry, so can't help with that one.

Enjoy the heatwave!

Author: kiwikid
Subject: 27265
Posted: 30 June 2009 at 11:01pm

I know summer is a bit of a memory for everyone now but I'm in the UK and we've finally got some good weather however my little man is suffering a little so was wondering if there were any tips you could share to help us through this 30 degree weather... it might only last a week but never to mind!!!!

How did you put your little one to bed in the hot weather, what did they wear / bedclothes etc?

For those using cloth nappies did you notice extra irritation during warm weather or extra smelly (wees)?

I assume its common for baby to go off his food when its so hot, I know I cant be bothered eating much myself.

Tips for getting water into baby? Hayden will take a few sips but then not interested, but he has plenty of wet / dirty nappies so I assume he is getting what he needs. He is even less keen on diluted juice, gives me a distinctly WTF look when I give it to him in his sippy cup.

Is it worth buying those plastic ice block thingys to do ice block at home for a 1yr old, would he even be interested?

Thanks!
