Hi there,
My daughter Ella was born with tongue tie. Fortunately within hours the nurese noticed it because she wasn't feeding and we took her the next day to have the underneath of her tongue snipped. It was the best thing we could have done. She was able to breast feed immediately and 8 months later she's still feeding and speaking perfectly.
The 'snip' was not painful at all because it is just a bit of skin with no nerves, so it was not traumatic for her at all. You have to have a specialist look at it, we went to a Dr over the North Shore who specialises in it, some paediatricians say to just leave it for it to 'grow out' but I think (personally) that's just crap! If it's preventing breast feeding and impeeding speech when it doesn't have to then get the snip I say!

Of course see the doc, as sometimes the skin can have veins running through it and then it's a little more complicated.

How old is Connor? I have a friend whose six month old baby has HUGE problems with drinking from a cup or bottle; his tongue seems to get in the way - and yet he has breastfed fine. He hasn't really started solids yet - but I remember from my boys that one of the ways they showed they weren't hungry or weren't interested in food was by sticking their tongue in the way of the spoon. Hi does anyone else's out there baby has problems with feeding, speaking. Connor is tongue tied and so cannot stick his tongue out at all. he also hates solid foods and has real problems with his tongue getting in the way of a spoon or cup. He wasborn with this but as he breastfed ok the midwife said there was no need to get it snipped but now they have referred us to see what problems it may cause, and is it effecting connors eating. He also does not dribble at all so maybe he does not get enough salive to break down chunkier foods.

Any advice woudl be great
