Just make sure you make it special, she will have her own special room etc. And on moving day make their room the priority. I found with Dom it really helped to have all the furniture in the same layout as his last bedroom. It wasn't the perfect solution for the shape of his new room but I just started changing little things here and there as time went on.
Keira being a bit older can really get into having something new and special just for her. Perhaps you could take her shopping (just her and mummy) to get a special duvet for her new room etc. Try to get her as involved in possible without forcing the issue.
You won't be able to say goodnight to the grandparents in person every night but you can still phone and say goodnight. And have a photo of them for her bedrm
It is a big change but it will turn out alright, it took us a good month to really settle in. Good luck with the move.

When we moved she had to deal with a new room, a new big girls bed and living with just us, AS well as a new daycare!

She coped really well. She was a bit scared in her room on the first few nights but I would just sit with her and then leave the door open with the hall light on. We went back to my parents for a visit within the same week, and even now we still go there once in the weekends.

I was worried too, but Janaya coped fine!

    Author: Daizy
Subject: 27468
Posted: 14 July 2009 at 12:10pm

Ok se we have just bought our first house and are moving in less than a week. I have a million things running through my mind and one of the things I am quite worried about is how the girls are going to cope.

We have been living in a tiny one bedroomed portacom (granny flat) out the back of my parents back yard. Its all Keira has ever known for the last 4 years. There is always constant stuff going on, constant attention, sometimes I wonder if she knows which family she belongs too (she still has aunties and uncles living in the main house). She sees her Grandparents everyday and gets upset if we cant get over to say goodnight. I am really worried how she's going to cope being separated from her 'family' and how she will handle it with only us 4 around?? (And how am I going to cope never getting that break?!?)

I knew this was going to happen one day but I wasn't really expecting it to happen so suddenly (not that I am excited about it all). How do I prepare her in less than a week and what can I do to make it easier for her once we are in the new place (she already says she doesn't want to leave) Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did the kids cope?

The other thing I am worried about it the girls moving into their own room. They will still be sharing with each other but not with us. How hard is that going to be? Any advice??

And the beds the girls are currently in are built into the house so we are going to have to move them into new beds. We dont even have a cot and after a lot of thought we are going to try going straight into a big bed with a small side. I have no idea if its going to work, I think it is going to take a lot of adjusting for her to get used to it. She doesnt like to sleep anywhere but her own bed, so I think theres going to be a lot of adjusting no matter where I put her. Am I crazy trying to put her straight into a bed?? How can I ease her into it???.......

Sorry I have so many questions.... I have never done this before. Feeling a bit clueless......
