Thought it was fantastic...and can't wait for next weeks show, am going to tape it from now on as well.

Yesterday I was looking for Leah and found her out on the driveway..playing on her little skateboard on the concrete as happy as, I lik0e 0the0 00000000000000000000000

oops...just had help typing, as I was saying, I like the fact that she can amuse herself and I don't have to be there all the time helping her to do things!

DS 16 was there watching it too and made a good comment - they have everything at home now so they don't need to go anywhere - as in entertainment - DVD, computers, video games even down to the mini playground in the back yard. At his age I was away for the whole day (and night) my parents must ofhad it easy LOL Although my brother was more of a home person he still was out working on cars and stuff.

And proud to say we have an old Super tramp (don't make them like they use to this tramp I grew up on ) and its got no mats or net and guess what - NONE of my kids have had an accident on it.

Caitlynsmygirl (kelly) I too watched coldcase -very good shame its the last one. Dh grrrr was asking me right at the end what was happening - it was a 2 episode one so I didn't want to explain espec when wanting to watch the end.

I didn't watch it - forgot about it.

But I do think parents wrap their kids up in cotton wool a bit much. Daniel plays outside every day (unless its pissing down) by himself. I leave the door open, shut the gates and let him go for his life. I've made sure there aren't any major hazards but I know my friend who has a girl of a similar age would never do that. I just keep an ear out listening to what hes doing. He trips up and hurts himself on the concrete on ocassions but never anything major. There was a great summary in the SST of the main points from his book on mums and sons. Basically giving tips for how to interact to help them develop their imagination and sense of fun and exploration. i missed the show, really wanted to watch it tho. I cant remember what he said exactly, but there was something that made me think about all the fun times in my childhood, and how most of it was when i was "let free".

I was thinking last night, I wonder if we have such an obesity problem in part because kids aren't encouraged to use their bodies so they get to teenagers/adults and just aren't physically confident.

When I have kids I think I'll really struggle to let them take lots of risks - after ttc for 2 and a half years and losing 2 to MC I think it'll be hard to let them hurt themselves. But I'm so, so willing to work on that. And I loved last night the girls in the Dunedin preschool. They are so cool zipping around on the bikes and chucking themselves into everything. I recorded it too - love Latta. Warning he can be very blue with his language if you go to one of his seminars - but very, very funny and practical. Good article by him in the Listener too and we have his books.

These days kids (and some parents!) need to harden up more!
